Manager, Environmental Permitting, Major Projects

Reporting to the of Director, Operations Ontario Region, you will be part of the Environment Department. This position oversees environmental permitting requirements for keystone major projects for the Ontario Region, with responsibility to ensure on-time acquisition and consistent delivery of various environmental permits and approvals through appropriate collaboration with internal stakeholders, including site operations, community relations and corporate teams, as well as external stakeholders and Partner Nations. You will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.
- Lead environmental permitting initiatives for construction, operations and exploration related permitting requirements.
- Provide a clear short-, mid- and long-term model to key stakeholders on permitting requirements.
- Serve as the primary point of contact and stakeholder for Ontario Region environmental and permitting requirements, ensuring the identification of potential risks and the development of mitigation strategies to minimize disruption to the operations.
- Identify any permits or amendments required for mine optimization and future development phases.
- Collaborate with the Director of Environment/Sustainability in developing permitting strategies for keystone permits.
- Participate in Implementation Committees and Subcommittees (and other working groups) in collaboration with Community Relations and our Partner Nations.
- Ensure collaboration with the community relations team and review technical feedback to Indigenous and non-Indigenous community consultation initiatives.
- Manage and lead internal consultant resources (budget, quality, schedule, etc.) required to support permitting initiatives. Delegate tasks effectively and ensure clear communication among team and project members.
- Understand and participate in engineering and construction processes to support the requirements.
- Provide guidance and proper instructions to operations personnel for planning, scheduling, and close out of projects from an environmental permitting view. Ensures documentation is properly prepared.
- Promote and adhere to Agnico Eagles corporate values and guiding principles.
Minimum 10 years’ experience in mining environmental roles, with at least three years in a managerial capacity;
Bachelor’s degree in environmental management or a related field;
Strong commitment to mining safety and sustainability practices;
Knowledge of relevant federal regulations and standards governing mining operations in Canada;
Knowledge and experience with relevant provincial regulations and standards governing mining operations in Ontario;
Experience engaging and collaborating with Indigenous Nations and Peoples;
Strong communication, technical writing and presentation skills in English, particularly in presenting technical information in plain language to non-technical audiences;
Proven management and leadership skills; ability to build consensus, rally support around common goals and to motivate groups and individuals;
Strategic thinking and understanding of critical issues related to project management;
Ability to travel to mine sites and Indigenous communities to participate in events and speak to technical aspects;
Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite applications especially Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
