Emergency preparedness is a critical aspect of CCH operations. It is essential that all staff and physicians receive training and understand their roles and responsibilities in this field.

Summary of responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Professional Practice, Infection Prevention and Control and Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness, the Manager, Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness is responsible for the provision of high-quality service in the Occupational Health, Safety and Wellness department. The Manager will be responsible for building/maintaining strong and qualified teams that respond to the needs of the patients, employees, hospital departments, and hospital reporting and legal requirements. The Manager will be responsible for coordinating with other departments to ensure the patients, staff and physicians are receiving the services and information that are required for the smooth provision of care.

Requirements of the job
  • Diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years working experience in an Occupational Health and Safety role.
  • Experience with WSIB claims management, incident investigation, workplace inspections, ergonomics, risk assessments, as well as policy development.
  • Extensive knowledge of employment and related legislation (e.g., Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, Labour Relations Act, Environmental Protection Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, etc.), union contractual obligations, human resources practices, and hospital standards.
  • Knowledge of Accreditation Canada standards.
  • Certified JHSC Rep through Infrastructure Health and Safety Association; WHMIS 2015.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications, excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Time management skills with ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Specialized Health & Safety Training (Workplace Investigations, etc.).
  • Knowledge and awareness of WSIB requirements and process.
Assets
  • Experience in a hospital/healthcare environment.
  • Bilingual (English and French).
