Occupational Health and Safety Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health and Safety Manager to join our team at Drake International. As a key member of our corporate management team, you will play a vital role in shaping and overseeing our Safety, Health, and Environmental programs.
As the Health and Safety Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental Legislation at our Canadian business locations. This includes monitoring regulatory changes and advising on any impacts to operations.
You will lead and support Industrial Hygiene Monitoring, Hazard Communication, Radiation Safety, Incident Investigations and General IH Procedures and/or Programs. Additionally, you will develop safety programs to minimize injury rates and act as a management representative at JHSC.
Other key responsibilities include preparing and submitting quarterly and annual environmental reports to NPRI, MOE, MISA among others. You will manage Environmental controls (MISA, CEPA) and perform audits, reporting on safety, environment and waste compliance performance.
You will also be responsible for observing all occupational health and safety rules, ensuring personal safety and the safety of others. Furthermore, you will support one US business location in implementing safety programs and refine, develop and maintain organizational health and safety policies.
As a key member of our team, you will influence and assist in the implementation of Safety, Health and Environmental initiatives. You will assist in communications for management, staff and Joint Health and Safety Committees using internal and external resources, on Health & Safety compliance requirements, including WHMIS, First Aid, Fire Plan, Fall Arrest, and Lockout Tagout.
You will provide regular reporting and recommendations to senior management on health and safety statistics and performance. You will liaise with external agencies including the MOL, WSIB, OSHA and HSE. Finally, you will coordinate corporate facility audits and set audit standards.
What We Offer- Salary: $90,000 - $105,000

- A bachelor's degree preferred, ideally in Occupational Health and Safety.
- CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professionals) and/or CHSC (Certified Health and Safety Consultant) designations.
- Expert Knowledge of Canadian health and safety legislation and programs.
- The ideal candidate would also know about U.S. health and safety legislation.
- 7 -10 years of leadership experience within Health & Safety, ideally gained in a manufacturing environment.
- Exceptional communication, facilitation & training skills in the health and safety areas.
- Analytical and strategic skills to enable the evaluation of best practice approaches to the design and implementation of Health and Safety programs.
- Proven ability to drive driving improvements in Health and Safety programs.
- WSIB Claims Management experience is desired.
