We’re looking for aDirector, Human Resources to join the MCAN’s HR team.

Job Summary:

The Human Resources Director has overall responsibility for the day-to-day function of the HR & Facilities team within the organization and is charged with planning and managing human resource programs and strategies. The Human Resources Director will play a pivotal role in formulating and executing HR strategies aligned with our organizational objectives, while ensuring compliance with local employment laws and fostering a positive work culture. This position reports to the Vice President, Human Resources and is responsible for managing 4 team members within the department.

What you will be responsible for:

  • In partnership with the VP, HR, act as a strategic partner and through leader in developing and implementing HR strategies, policies, and procedures that adhere to Canadian labor laws and regulations, supporting the company's objectives and promoting a fair and equitable work environment.
  • Overseeing the development and execution of comprehensive onboarding programs for new hires, facilitating seamless integration into the organization and promoting our corporate values and culture.
  • Managing performance management processes, including goal setting, the establishment of performance standards, regular feedback mechanisms, performance evaluations, and the identification of opportunities for team member development and advancement.
  • Overseeing the recruitment and selection process, including job analysis, candidate sourcing, interviewing, and offer negotiations, ensuring compliance with employment equity and diversity regulations.
  • Providing expert guidance and support in employee relations matters, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and grievance handling, ensuring adherence to company policies and Canadian labor laws.
  • Collaborating with senior management to design and administer competitive compensation and benefits programs, including salary structures, incentive plans, and team member wellness initiatives, compliant with local regulations.
  • Ensuring compliance with federal and provincial employment laws and regulations, conducting regular audits and reviews to identify areas of risk and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Reviewing and approving payroll to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable regulations, working closely with the payroll team to resolve discrepancies and ensure timely and accurate compensation for all the team members.
  • Leading organizational learning and development initiatives to enhance team member skills and competencies, identifying training needs, designing programs, and evaluating effectiveness to drive team member engagement and retention.
  • Utilizing HR metrics and analytics to monitor key performance indicators, analyze trends, and make data-driven decisions to optimize HR processes, enhance organizational effectiveness, and support strategic business objectives.
  • Driving diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) initiatives by fostering an inclusive work environment and enhancing diversity awareness and sensitivity in all HR practices. This involves developing and implementing diversity training programs, ensuring equal opportunities across the organization, and supporting initiatives via the MCAN Culture Committee.
  • Providing effective leadership, coaching and mentorship to the HR & Facilities team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality HR services and support across the organization.

The work experience, skills, education that you bring to the role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • HR certification (e.g., CHRP, CHRL) highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in Human Resources, with at least 5+ years in a leadership role.
  • Extensive experience working in the financial sector, preferably within mortgage lending or banking, with a deep understanding of the Canadian regulatory landscape.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing HR strategies that drive organizational success and foster team member engagement.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams, build relationships, and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with diverse groups of the team members and stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze complex issues, anticipate challenges, and develop innovative solutions.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality in handling sensitive HR matters.
