Heartland Mutual Insurance has an excellent opportunity in our Direct Sales Department for a P&C Insurance Agent.

P&C Insurance Agent – Brantford, Thamesford, or Waterloo, Ontario

What you will do…

Sales and Marketing:

  • Create and implement a business development plan to generate new business opportunities.
  • Complete risk assessments over the phone and by visiting clients in person to obtain the appropriate information to complete accurate insurance quotes.
  • Manage renewal process by gathering required information, cross selling, account rounding and presenting renewals as required.
  • Request referrals from existing clients to help grow the book of business.
  • Promote the company brand and services/products offered to customers.
  • Participate in networking events to promote Heartland and the services you provide as an insurance agent.
  • Utilize Heartland’s industry leading technology to efficiently distribute our insurance product offerings.
  • You will create new business opportunities using developed networks and build a sales pipeline to meet and exceed sales goals.
  • You will service a portfolio of Auto, Home, Commercial and Farm insurance business requiring a proven underwriting ability and a dedication to customer service perfection.
  • You will provide the best possible protection for policyholders by advising them to make informed choices and answering product questions.
  • Working within defined limits of authority, consistently provide high quality decisions that support the achievement of Heartland’s financial targets in accordance with the Operational Plan.
  • Participate in or provide training and development initiatives to constantly enhance the quality of decision making and risk selection.
  • Manage a renewal portfolio of assigned clients and coordinating the discussion of renewal strategy with your support staff (Agency Administrator) and underwriting. Visiting risks in person when required.
  • Work with Agent support staff to review renewals, endorsements, cancellations, payment notices ensuring accurate processing of policy documentation.
  • Complete building evaluations using either RCT, Douglas Cost Guide, CoreLogic.
  • Accurately maintain and update client database as required.
  • Analyzing client coverages, exposures and loss experience, to determine risk requirements.
  • Keep current on underwriting rules and workflow processes.
  • Handling routine inquiries (Respond to inquiries from clients and Underwriting).

Customer Experience:

  • Providing exceptional and prompt service to clients, Agency Administrators and Underwriters.
  • Demonstrate Heartland’s value proposition of exemplary customer experience through the ongoing development of relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Develop strong customer relationships through personal accountability and high-quality decision making.
  • Service a portfolio of personal insurance businesses requiring a proven underwriting ability and a dedication to customer service perfection
  • Provide the best possible protection for policyholders by advising them to make informed choices and answering product questions

What you will bring…

  • Completion of OSSD. Post-secondary education is preferred.
  • 5+ years of P&C Insurance experience in either a sales or underwriting role.
  • Ability to analyze the risk needs of farm, commercial, personal property and auto risks.
  • Very strong communication, sales and customer service skills.
  • Initiative and ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • OTL Agent License or RIBO Broker License an asset or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire (assistance provided).
  • Completion of CIP, CRM or working towards completion is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with PowerBroker or other Industry Management systems is an asset.
