The Role:
As a key member of the Food Security and Climate Strategies Branch, your role includes providing research, reviews, and analysis on climate change adaptation, greenhouse gas reduction, and food security, as well as developing strategies and action plans for agricultural resilience. This vital work means that BC farmers will be able to produce more food while dealing more effectively with climate change risks such as flooding, drought and wildfire. This unique Climate Change Policy Advisor opportunity allows you to work with a highly engaged team on impactful solutions to enhance food security and sustainability, ensuring a competitive and resilient future for BC's farmers and agricultural communities.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline, such as Agriculture, Economics, Resource or Environmental Management, Science, Geography, Business Administration, Public Administration, or equivalent. A Master’s Degree is preferred.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in each of the following capacities:
    • researching, developing and writing policy papers and briefing materials;
    • managing projects and/or project components within multidisciplinary teams;
    • providing advice and recommendations on legislation, policy and/or programs to senior management, such as industry/ministry executive and/or government officials; and,
    • developing, fostering and maintaining effective relationships with colleagues, other government agencies, industry stakeholders and research organizations and institutes.

Preference may be given for one (1) or more of the following:

  • Experience conducting user experience research or similar qualitative research.
  • Experience and knowledge of project management principles and approaches.
  • Experience related to climate change mitigation and adaptation.
  • Experience related to BC’s agriculture, agrifoods, and fisheries industries.
  • Experience providing briefings to senior management and executive (e.g. Assistant Deputy Minister, Deputy Minister, Minister, CEO, etc.).

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available in Victoria. Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement. Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment. An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in Victoria. It is anticipated interviews for this competition will occur in early-to-mid-September. A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
