Purpose
  • Assist the Manager in coordinating the Safety department in providing the appropriate training and safety guidance to all employees in all departments.
  • Promote, coordinate and implement activities to improve and maintain high levels of safety performance.
  • Act as a resource for all of the workplace parties and an advocate of the Internal responsibility System (IRS).
Responsibilities
  • Conduct site inspections and assist with accident investigations. i.e. Root Cause.
  • Audit the workplace, identify hazards and make recommendations to reduce exposure to the workforce.
  • Oversee the inherent programs i.e. Hazard/ Risk Safety System, Safety Meetings, Event Reporting and Investigation quality, Action Management, Contractor Safety Management, etc.
  • Coordinate health and safety activities including wellbeing activities.
  • Assist in drafting and reviewing job procedures relevant to health, safety and security.
  • Monitor the functioning of the IRS and make recommendations for its improvement.
  • Regularly audit or arrange for the audit of the elements of the health and safety system, and to suggest ways of improving them.
  • Regularly audit and inspect the operation for compliance with the Act, Regulations and company policies / procedures.
  • Report to departmental manager on the safety and health status of the operation.
  • Advise workers, supervisors and management personnel on technical safety & health matters.
  • Act as a resource for all employees and the JHSEC.
  • Advise trainers on the safety and health content of training courses.
  • Liaise with other operations, WSN and similar resources to obtain up-to-date information on safety and health issues for the operation and the JH&SC.
  • Provide management with statistical reports, in departmental managers absence.
  • Actively participate in safety groups i.e. Musselwhite Safety Group, WSN technical committee(s), Ontario Mining Association, etc as needed.
  • Participate in the JHSEC as a member or a resource person.
  • Attend crew safety meetings on a selective basis either as an observer or presenter.
  • Supervise and support the Occupational Health Nurses with preventative programs and WSIB issues.
  • Oversee and promote use of FRA (Formal Risk Assessment) and FLRA (Field Level Risk Asessment) process.
Requirements
  • Minimum 10 years experience in underground, open pit and milling operations.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in Occupational Health and Safety Systems Management.
  • Familiarity with the various Common Core programs that are administered through the Ministry of Colleges and Universities.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in leadership roles.
  • Ability to plan and schedule programs and activities.
  • Demonstrate good problem solving skills.
  • Work well in a team atmosphere.
Working Conditions

The work schedule is 14 days of work followed by 14 days of rest, however, it  can be changed according to the department's needs.
