Devon, Canada Triple West Medical Full time

We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Emergency Medicine on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful A&E department.

Our clients department comprises a fully equipped resuscitation room with three bays, high and low acuity majors treatment areas with nine and ten cubicles respectively, a separate hot area with 6 beds and a separate minors area. There is a purpose-built seminar room with a range of modern presentation aids. The department is currently undergoing a rebuild due to be completed in 2022, giving 8 resuscitation bays and a separate children's ED with co-located paediatric assessment area in addition to the current estate. The department has a fully equipped theatre, separate but integral facilities for ENT and Ophthalmic patients and separate examination and waiting rooms for children. The department is well placed with respect to adjacent facilities e.g. main x-ray, main theatres and ITU. The department is well supported by a full range of ‘in-house' specialities including plastics, and is served by a purpose-built helipad, recently refurbished. The hospital is a Major Trauma Unit.

The successful appointee will be asked to fulfil various responsibilities within the department, including:

  1. Sharing with the other Consultants responsibility for the initial care and reception of all patients attending the Emergency Department.
  2. Continuing responsibility for those patients who remain under the care of the Emergency Department.

  5. Providing emergency cover for the absent consultant colleague, including clinical supervision to junior staff caring for emergency patients.
