Laboratory Analyst

Oil Sands Laboratory – Kearl

Our laboratory is located on a client site situated north of Fort McMurray. This position requires quick and accurate TAT to assist the client to monitor their plant operational parameters so they can maximize production.

Job Overview and Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities include the following (but are not limited to):

  1. Independently operate various instruments including GC’s, Viscometers, Digital Density Meter, Dean Stark and particle sized analysis for Petroleum Plant Operation
  2. Perform sample preparation
  3. Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)
  4. Deliver high quality analytical data accurately and on time
  5. Efficiently handle glassware and equipment for extractions, refluxes and preparation
  6. Maintain proper calibration, quality control records and routine maintenance procedures
  7. Execute daily troubleshooting methods of analytical equipment
  8. Ensure adherence to Bureau Veritas’s policies, certifications and accreditations
  9. Actively participate in Bureau Veritas’s Health and Safety Program (meetings, near miss and incident reporting, hazard assessment)
Is there a mutual fit? You ideally have:
  1. Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree in related field (i.e. BS, Petroleum/Chemical Technician)
  2. Demonstrated success in position of a Laboratory Technician or Analyst is an asset
  3. Sound knowledge of sample handling procedures to ensure continuity and integrity of samples through compliance with laboratory procedures and quality assurance protocols
  4. Knowledge of and experience with laboratory Occupational Health and Safety practices to handle hazardous materials by taking the necessary precautions.
  5. Excellent manual dexterity, record keeping, calculations and problem solving abilities
  6. Flexible to perform varying duties to accommodate changing priorities
  7. Good time-management, communication, multi-tasking and priority setting skills
  8. Strong computer skills
  9. Positive outlook with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  10. Works both independently and as part of a team
Experience:
  • Minimum Education: Diploma in related field (Required)
  • 1-2 years of experience in related field (Preferred)
Schedule:
  • Shift work - 12 hour shifts
  • The shift rotation is: work 14 day shifts, then have 14 days off; alternating with, work 14 night shifts, then have 14 days off
  • Local Fort McMurray Applicants: Transportation to/from site provided and camp accommodations
  • Applicants living in Edmonton and Calgary: Qualify for a fly in/fly out schedule and camp accommodations
