Position Title: Director, Enterprise Risk Management

Department: General Counsel’s Office

Location: Toronto

Status: Permanent, Full-Time (Hybrid)

Reporting to the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, the Director of Enterprise Risk Management is responsible for the leadership, governance, and management required to identify, evaluate, mitigate and monitor the organization’s strategic and operational risks. The Director is also responsible for supporting the work of our outsourced internal audit function.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure CIRO’s risk management framework remains fit for purpose and up to date with industry standards and define metrics and thresholds to monitor and report on CIRO’s risk profile.
  • Support strategic planning processes to ensure risks associated with strategies are identified and in line with organizational approach.
  • Support management in identifying and assessing the risks and controls for their area of operation and provide support for proactive risk management.
  • Lead a comprehensive annual risk and control assessment that identifies CIRO’s significant risks and emerging risks, assesses effectiveness of risk mitigation and identifies any control gaps as well as opportunities for enhancement of mitigation.
  • Design control tests and perform verification of controls associated with mitigating CIRO’s significant risks.
  • Lead the organization’s Risk Committee to effect senior executive oversight of CIRO’s risk management as per the Committee’s charter and provide guidance on the management of risks.
  • Present results of completed risk assessments, as well as a comprehensive annual risk report, to the appropriate Committees and the Board as required.
  • Perform annual reviews and summary of vendor risks and remediate as required
  • Ensure CIRO has an appropriate resiliency framework to manage risks to business continuity.
  • Establish and deliver risk education to support business/operational units in understanding and fulfilling their risk management responsibilities.
  • Lead CIRO’s support role for internal audit with CIRO’s outsourced partner
  • Contribute to the development of the annual internal audit plan to address finding of the risk analysis, and to ensure adherence to requirements of governing bodies.
  • Manage the internal audit outsourcing relationship and ensure feedback is obtained from management on performance and proactively shared with the outsourced audit partner and the FAR Committee.

Education and Experience:

  • Post-secondary degree in Business, Risk Management, Finance or related field
  • Profession al certification in risk management (i.e. CFA/FRM) preferred
  • Minimum of 5+ years leading ERM in a same or similar scope role

Key Skills and Competencies:

  • Thorough knowledge of ERM, COSO framework and systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain relationships with department heads, external auditors and internal auditors.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to think strategically; quick to absorb and synthesize new information.
  • Strong project management ability and drive to projects as required in accordance with risk management.
  • General knowledge of the investment industry and capital markets an asset.
