The Role

The Application Engineer is responsible for development and support of existing enterprise applications. This includes configuring, coding, developing, implementing, support during business hours, On Call after hour support, and documenting software specifications throughout the project life cycle.

Strategy and Planning

Contributes to evaluation of design options and approach. Familiar with architectural patterns that contribute to the production of secure, reliable, manageable, and high-performance solutions. Contribute to architectural modelling to assist in determining solution efficacy. Performs estimating, prioritizing, planning of tasks to reliably and consistently deliver according to plan.

Acquisition and Deployment

Conduct research as directed on emerging application development software products, languages, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts. Performs detailed technical design of proposed solutions for individual software components. Contributes to the determination of relevant risks and determines mitigation strategies.

Operational Management

Develop and review software programs, code, and unit tests for new and existing applications and systems, ensuring functional and non-functional requirements are met. Develop and maintain supporting documentation as required. Gather statistics and prepare and write reports on the status of the programming process for discussion with management and/or team members. Recommend, schedule, and perform software improvements and upgrades for optimal performance of software applications. Provides off-hours support as part of an on-call rotation and respond to incidents and requests about system functionality and provides problem resolution.

What You Bring To The Team

Must haves

  1. Minimum 1 year of development experience
  2. Experience with JavaScript/Typescript, Express, NoSQL (MongoDB)
  3. Familiar with automated software engineering concepts including CI/CD and related process used to streamline cycle time and improve product quality
  4. Demonstrates the ability to convey thoughts and express ideas effectively using speech in individual or group situations. Attends to and fully comprehends what others are saying
  5. The ability to develop and maintain internal and external trusting, professional relationships. It also includes using listening and understanding to build rapport. Balances team and individual responsibilities. Exhibits objectivity and openness to others' views. Gives and welcomes feedback. Contributes to building a positive team spirit.   9. The ability to forecast and assess the degree of risk on a team/project/product scale in plans or actions and take appropriate action to mitigate them or make contingency plans to limit the magnitude of risk. It includes having insight and appreciation of client/business needs, priorities, goals, and seeing that actions support the business goals. Considers, prioritizes, and takes actions to deliver a superior customer experience in the best interest of MCAP
  10. Post-secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field

Nice to Have

  • Development web-based applications and API services
  • Familiar with security principles and concepts such as AAA, OWASP
  • Experience with SQA/testing practices including functional, unit, and shift-left testing principles and methodologies
  • Familiar with the threat landscape as it relates to web-based application and mitigation concepts and practices
  • Experience with C#, .Net Framework, MS SQL, Message Brokers (RabbitMQ), Docker, Azure DevOps
