The technical animator is the person whose work allows the animator to leverage their skills. In this role, you will use your strong knowledge of rigging and skinning principles to create the structure that animators need to bring characters to life according to design requirements.

The technical animator has the knowledge to create well-thought-of and optimized structures depending on production constraints and has worked with polygonal structures of models to get the best possible deformation.

In this role, you will:
  • Understand the technical development vision in animation;
  • Work withing the technical restraints;
  • Create rigs and skinning for models with various degrees of complexity;
  • Suggest new tools and best practices;
  • Reuse resources wherever possible;
  • Maintain strong communication with animators and designers;
  • Assess the impact of methods used during production;
  • Support animators to optimize the integration and use of animations in engine.
What we're looking for:
  • Minimum of five years of experience in the gaming industry;
  • Good knowledge of character rigging including body and facial;
  • Expertise in Maya and Unreal Engine;
  • Scripting skills with leading 3D applications (Maya, Python);
  • Experience creating state machines and setting up gameplay logic (blueprint);
  • Understanding of animation concepts such as layering, blending etc.;
  • Experience working with motion capture pipelines is a plus;
  • You are comfortable communicating and drafting documents in French and English (the vast majority of contracts are in English).
Dans ce rôle, vous devrez:
  • Comprendre la vision du développement technique en animation;
  • Respecter les contraintes techniques;
  • Créer des rigs et effectuer le skinning de modèles de diverses complexités;
  • Proposer de meilleures pratiques suggérer de nouveaux outils;
  • Réutiliser les ressources lorsque possible;
  • Établir une solide communication avec les animateurs et les designers;
  • Évaluer l’impact des méthodes utilisées en production;
  • Assister les animateurs afin d’optimiser l’intégration et l’utilisation des animations dans le moteur.
Ce que nous recherchons:
  • Minimum de 5 années d'expérience dans l'industrie du jeux vidéo;
  • Connaissance approfondie du rigging des personnages (corps et visage);
  • Expertise dans Maya et avec Unreal Engine;
  • Compétences en matière de script avec les principales applications 3D (Maya, Python);
  • Expérience de la création de machines d’état et de la mise en place d'une logique de jeu (blueprint);
  • Compréhension des concepts d'animation tels que la superposition, le mélange et la correspondance des mouvements;
  • Expérience de travail avec des pipelines de capture de mouvement est un atout;
  • Vous êtes à l’aise pour communiquer et rédiger des documents en français et en anglais (la grande majorité des contrats étant en anglais).

L’animateur · trice technique permet aux animateurs de pouvoir faire rayonner leur talent. Armé · e d’une bonne connaissance des principes de rigging et de skinning, vous créez la structure permetant à l’animateur de déformer le personnage ou l’objet selon les exigences du design.

Vos connaissances vous permettent de créer des structures réfléchies et optimisées selon les contraintes de production. Vous partagez votre expérience en orientant la structure polygonale des modèles pour obtenir la meilleure déformation possible et vous assurez le suivi auprès des animateurs pour valider la qualité et la pertinence de votre travail.
