About the Role

CASA House is a live-in program for teens who need support with significant mental health and/or addictions challenges. Teens stay at CASA House for an average of four months. The program involves parents and caregivers as active participants in treatment. Treatment includes individual, group and family therapy, social and life skills training, and on-site schooling in small classroom settings.


The Licensed Practical Nurse will:

  1. Provide nursing assessments and patient care plans, including medication administration and monitoring, teaching, telephone follow-up and health promotion.
  2. Practice according to the code of ethics and practice standards of their specific professional college.
  3. Assist with individual or group therapy as directed and as appropriate.
  4. Coordinate with other professionals to promote continuity of care and assist families with connecting to a primary care physician.
  5. Identify service delivery improvements and suggest enhancements, utilizing a lens of evidence-informed practice and considering CASA’s strategic and operational plan.
  6. Maintain electronic health records in a complete and timely manner.
  7. Work collaboratively with the research department to assist with critical appraisal, evaluation and knowledge transfer.
  8. Contribute to program and clinical team meetings.

Qualifications
  1. Graduate of a practical nurse program recognized by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta, or recognized by CASA.
  2. Current member in good standing with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta.
  3. Minimum of three years of recent experience in pediatrics and mental health is required.
  4. Experience in crisis intervention and de-escalation is preferred.
  5. Knowledge of the Health Information and Protection of Privacy Information Act and professional organization’s ethics and standards of practice.
  6. Familiarity with electronic medical records or similar information systems.
  7. Ability to work autonomously, independently and to prioritize work activities.
  8. Demonstrated ability to adapt to new or changing situations.
  9. Flexibility and skill with interpersonal situations.

Conditions of Employment
  1. A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
  2. A satisfactory Child Intervention Check.
  3. Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA), as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
