Dartmouth, Canada Mara Renewables Corp Full time

We currently have an opening for a Corporate Accountant at our Dartmouth, NS location. As the Corporate Accountant, you will be tasked with the overall payables and receivables processes, working collaboratively with the accounting team to execute and deliver the monthly close, assisting in preparation of year-end audit support, and assisting with cash management. You will also have the opportunity to take on special projects, such as providing support to our ongoing finance technology transformation.

Job Responsibilities:

The key responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Review of accounts payable, closing month end accounts payable, as well as the maintenance of accounts payable paperless filing system.
  • Maintenance of employee expense report application.
  • Process and vouch employee expense reports and corporate credit card reconciliations.
  • Maintenance of master vendor file; new vendor setup, verification and entry.
  • Assist in cash flow forecasting.
  • Assist with preparation of month end reconciliations for financial statement preparation.
  • Support day-to-day accounting including clearing of payment runs, clearing of wire transactions and preparation of weekly bank journal entries (multicurrency).
  • Provide financial analytical support and respond to requests for financial information from other departments as needed.
  • Assist with preparation of audit support and work with external auditors.
  • Assist with preparation of the annual SR&ED claim, government audits and Statistics Canada reporting.
  • Assist with implementation of finance technology as needed.
  • Maintain training manuals and filing systems for all financial processes and documents.
  • Ensure accounting activities are in accordance with company policies and procedures and internal controls are followed.
  • Other related duties and projects as assigned.
Required Skills & Experience:
  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
  • Strong critical thinking skills to analyze financial data and identify discrepancies, enabling accurate financial reporting and decision-making.
  • Understanding in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • A commitment for ongoing professional development to stay updated on industry trends and accounting standards.
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Excel.
  • Attention to detail in all areas of work.
  • Strong ability to work independently and take initiative in completing tasks and problem-solving.
  • Able to work efficiently as a part of a team.
  • Excellent communication, problem solving and organizational skills.
Desired Skills & Experience:
  • 3 – 5 years accounting experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with accounting systems would be considered an asset.
