The Commercial Lines Senior P&C Underwriting Specialist will perform a range of quality audits and reviews, support underwriter referrals, and act as an Underwriting resource and participate in training and development of the Commercial Lines underwriting team.

What you will do:

  1. Act as an underwriting resource on risks outside of the authority level of the front-line Underwriters and authorize risks within own established authority levels.
  2. Complete Underwriting Quality Reviews on the commercial & property underwriters including underwriters with our MGA partner.
  3. Oversee the Underwriting Quality Reviews for the branch including action items and follow-ups.
  4. Participate in training as required including subject research, preparation of material and delivery of the training.
  5. Participate in the training and development of the Underwriting staff members, providing technical expertise and advice regarding products, systems, and processes.
  6. Consult with our Central Technical Unit regarding unique or unusual risks to minimize adverse risk selection to maintain the quality and profitability of the portfolio and refer all risks outside established authority level.
  7. Oversee the Large Loss review process.
  8. Develop and maintain a knowledge and understanding of company operations and procedures, including demographic, economic, and social characteristics.
  9. Participate in the introduction and communication of pricing, coverage and/or product changes in a timely manner.
  10. Help identify areas of concern regarding loss ratios, risk trends, or other discrepancies.
  11. Develop and maintain working knowledge of all Information Systems/Programs within.
  12. Participate in other audits as required.
  13. Participate in the development of Underwriting guidelines, procedures, and manuals.
  14. Maintain knowledge of industry trends, developments, and regulatory changes.
  15. Contribute to corporate objectives and assist in the presentation of proposals as required.

What you will bring:

  1. At least 7+ years experience in Commercial Lines Property & Casualty Underwriting including complex risks.
  2. Post-secondary education (Business or related discipline) or equivalent practical experience.
  3. CIP/FCIP preferred.
  4. Knowledge of audit processes and methodology.
  5. Strong knowledge of underwriting, pricing, and product in key segments, i.e. Wholesaling, Manufacturing and/or Contractors.
  6. Working knowledge of company underwriting philosophy, policy contracts, rating programs, risk information sources, underwriting/technical manual information, statutory constraints, and computer workflow procedures.
  7. Working knowledge of other functional areas (i.e. Claims, Risk Management, Accounting, etc.)
  8. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word & Excel), RTM, commercial lines computer systems and other related systems.
  9. Ability to interact in a professional manner to develop long-term relationships with internal stakeholders and front-line underwriters.
  10. Ability to be self-motivated and proactively identify technical opportunities for employee development.
