Position Description:
LifeWise StL is seeking a committed and skilled Financial Social Worker | Benefits Specialist to join our team on a full-time basis. This role is vital in supporting our Senior Resiliency Fund program, designed to aid older adults in achieving economic wellness through a combination of one-on-one coaching, educational seminars, economic casework, and matched savings initiatives.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct formal intake assessments and create S.M.A.R.T. action plans to identify participant goals, barriers, and next steps.
  • Provide one-on-one coaching sessions using financial social work practices and financial coaching techniques to assist participants in achieving savings, income growth, debt reduction, and wealth accumulation.
  • Co-facilitate or lead financial and wealth management education workshops tailored to the needs of older adults.
  • Maintain accurate participant data to ensure the integrity and effectiveness of the program.
  • Engage in outreach activities to promote program participation, including marketing and recruitment efforts.
  • Embrace the collaborative spirit of LifeWise StL, working alongside staff, volunteers, and community partners to enhance our holistic, client-focused services.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in social services, with a focus on case management or counseling.
  • Experience in facilitating psychoeducational groups.
  • Knowledge of financial management tools and public benefits (e.g., TANF, SNAP, WIC).
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication abilities (public speaking, writing, and interpersonal skills).
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with diverse and underserved populations, particularly older adults.
  • Flexibility to work a variable schedule, including occasional evenings.
  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are highly desirable.

Additional Skills:

  • Familiarity with the St. Louis social service landscape.
  • Previous experience in financial services is a plus.

Professional Development:

  • LifeWise StL will provide training and certification in Financial Social Work and SHIP Counseling if not already obtained.
