DutiesWhat you'll do:
- Craft delicious meals: Plan and prepare weekly menus featuring delicious recipes and nutritious meals.
- Be a kitchen maestro: Cook and serve meals that cater to various dietary needs, ensuring every child enjoys a healthy, balanced diet.
- Champion food safety: Maintain the highest standards of food safety and hygiene, following all regulations.
- Engage and educate: Collaborate with staff and families to understand dietary needs and preferences, and educate children about the significance of food.
- Manage with precision: Handle kitchen inventory, order supplies and groceries, and ensure everything runs smoothly.
What we're looking for:
- Culinary expertise: Proven experience as a cook or chef, ideally in a child care or educational setting; must be able to independently run a kitchen and prepare food for up to 150 children.
- Cultural insight: Deep appreciation and understanding of Indigenous cultures, especially their culinary practices.
- Nutritional knowledge: Strong understanding of nutrition and the dietary needs of young children.
- Certification: Current Safe Food Handling certificate and familiarity with food safety regulations; also requires a valid G driver's license and own vehicle for transportation of grocery orders as well as daily transportation of hot lunch from our main site in St. Vincent school to our off-site in St. Ann school.
- Communication skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage with children, staff, and families.
- Organizational ability: Strong organizational and time management skills, capable of multitasking effectively.
