Job Description

The Role: Are you ready to become the Head, Clinical Development Strategy & Integration Lead? You will be a cross-disciplinary expert with an entrepreneurial mindset, and an uncompromising drive to transform clinical development at Novartis. Building relationships and driving highly performant partnerships will all come naturally to you. In this role, you will be accountable for leading the crafting and execution of strategic imperatives for Clinical Development by taking ownership of the creation, planning, and operationalization of key cross-functional improvement programs. You will actively partner with the Head of Portfolio Strategy and Operations, Head of Functional Excellence, Head of Clinical Workforce Insights, Head of Program Excellence, Head of Advanced Methods and Centres of Excellence, and Head of Data Design and Clinical Innovation.

Major accountabilities but not limited to:

  • Lead diagnostics, study and analysis as required, suggest recommendations and drive resultant actions as approved across all therapeutic areas and functional pillars.
  • Review Clinical Development Strategy (including program strategy) in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • In partnership with the Clinical Development Leadership Team, lead integration of new businesses/assets into Novartis from a CD perspective.
  • Assess and weigh the risks & benefits to patients involved in clinical studies for the assets involved in the integration. Assess differences in Novartis clinical standards for safe, compliant, and effective clinical studies compared to the new company, and recommend and implement any required mitigation measures in process and clinical study conduct to preserve study integrity, approvability, and patient safety.
  • Continuously look for new and better ways to deliver the Clinical Development agenda.
  • Prepare content for strategic initiatives whilst leading the Clinical Development strategy team on behalf of the Head of Clinical Development/Head Portfolio Strategy & Operations.
  • Support streamlining and provide governance co-leadership for the Head Portfolio Strategy and Operations, ensuring consistent messaging across various governance forums.

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Successful integration of new business/assets into Novartis from a Clinical Development perspective.
  • Clinical Development KPIs including functional objectives.
  • Effective cross-functional collaboration to enable Clinical Development led initiatives to strengthen Development objectives.
  • Effective crafting and delivery of Clinical Development strategic initiatives.

Education and experience:

  • Medical degree M.D. or equivalent required.
  • ≥8 years people and matrix management required while working in the pharmaceutical industry, life sciences/drug development, or equivalent.
  • Advanced business/finance degree preferred (e.g., MBA desired or equivalent).
  • Experience in Consulting/Banking (Healthcare focus) preferred.
  • Global people management experience desirable.
  • Strong relationship builder and communicator with experience leading diverse work teams, driving program excellence, and engaging functional partners.
  • Previous work and leadership in international and multidisciplinary drug development teams.
  • Strong knowledge of drug development strategy, Novartis experience in this area is preferred.
  • Strong planning and project management skills.
  • Organizational awareness, including significant experience working cross-functionally and in global teams.
