The United Church in Meadowood in St. Vital is seeking a Pianist to fill a part-time contract position. We are an active, welcoming and diverse group of people within an affirming, inclusive, seven-day-a-week church working to make a difference in our wider community. UCiM is home to a beautiful Kawai grand piano in the sanctuary. Music is an integral part of worship. We enjoy varied styles of music, from traditional to contemporary. We are fortunate to have a 15-20-member mixed voice adult choir that regularly sings anthems as part of weekly worship. The Pianist is responsible for musical accompaniment during worship services, additional church events, and choir practices and performances. The Pianist works in collaboration with the Music Director and Minister.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Formal music training in piano
  • Experience with choir accompaniment and playing with other musicians
  • Comfort to occasionally accompany the choir using simple percussion
  • Familiarity with a variety of musical styles and worship appropriate music
  • Church musical experience would be an asset
  • Strong ability to sight read and improvise
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Flexible nature and ability to pivot within changing situations
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Understanding of and ability to work with emerging computer applications

Starting date: September 1, 2024
Part-time 12-month Contract Position
The fee for service rate is to be determined based on experience and qualifications
Monthly payment based on invoice submitted
Fee for Service Agreement may be renewed on an annual basis
