We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Beef Sales Consultant to add to our Alberta Beef Sales team and drive growth in our commercial beef feed business in Northern Alberta. The ideal candidate will possess a knowledgeable background in beef cattle nutrition and beef production systems in Western Canada; capable of providing consultative expertise to our beef customers. This position offers a unique opportunity to work directly with our beef producers; providing on-farm service and feed solutions to achieve their herd management and production goals.

Job Description:

About The Role

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with both existing and new beef customers, serving as a trusted partner and resource for all their nutritional and production related needs
  • Drive growth and meet or exceed business targets by becoming a valued partner to our beef clients; providing on-farm consultation and sales calls, and providing value-add support as required in collaboration with our Nutrition team
  • Collaborate effectively with our Nutrition team and other industry professionals (veterinarians) as required to identify customer needs and develop nutritional programs to address those needs. 
  • Work closely with Customer Service, Production and Trucking to deliver the Right Feed, to the Right Place, at the Right Time.
  • Conduct on-farm consultations and assessments, supported by Nutrition as required, to evaluate herd performance, nutritional deficiencies, and economic performance.
  • Keeping up to speed on industry trends and market developments; providing feedback to Management or Nutrition on innovative products or technologies that producers are interested in.
  • Work effectively with other business functions (Customer Service, Production, Nutrition, Credit, Quality) in a fast-paced environment and manage timelines with multiple priorities.

Skills and Expertise

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education Bachelors’ or advanced degree in animal science, animal nutrition and production, or a related beef production field
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in livestock feed sales, beef cattle nutrition and production or related field, with a proven track record of delivering results. Applicable applied experience will be considered
  • Strong understanding of beef cattle production systems including feeding and forage quality, herd management, performance metrics and a thorough understanding of the local industry. 
  • Ability to balance on-farm rations and develop feeding programs considered an asset
  • Ability to prioritize individual responsibilities, customer needs, and effectively manage time
  • Proven ability in accurate and cost effective decision making and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • A level of computer and technology competency including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and ration calculator(s) is considered an asset
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, with the ability to effectively convey information to beef producers and diverse audiences.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, as well as collaboratively within a team environment. 
  • Required to travel extensively to meet with customers and attend industry events as needed
