Our client is currently seeking an experienced Automation Designer to join their team in Oldcastle, ON.

They are focus on core manufacturing principles and forward thinking to ensure all customer expectations for productivity, maintenance and safety are met.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing custom automated equipment solutions from initial concept to design, assembly, and commissioning.

This opportunity offers a permanent, full-time role with potential for advancement, within a positive team-oriented work environment, along with a competitive salary package.
The Company is primarily in automatic and semi-automatic ultrasonic welding, punching, induction heated inserts, and assembly of plastics, particularly fascia components.
They are 99.9% automotive. They also work with steel, aluminum and carbon fiber, a long the same avenues, punching, cutting etc. they do make full lines with robots and end of arm tooling as well.

Responsibilities:

  • Design automation and assembly equipment from concept to completion.
  • Adheres to all customer specifications
  • Maintain budgetary and timing targets
  • Produce detail prints and assembly drawings
  • Generate fully detailed BOMs
  • Write equipment manuals, maintenance schedules and reports
  • Mentor junior level designers
  • Check and backcheck completed designs
  • Assist Engineering Manager/Program Manager, providing information for the initial quoting stage
  • Perform FEA, as well as machine, process and robotic simulations
  • Support the assembly and controls departments through the build and debug stages of development
  • Ensure compliance with the customer Health & Safety Regulations and Quality Standards
  • Provide advice and consultancy support

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years designing automation equipment
  • Technical school graduate or equivalent in an industrial manufacturing setting
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling (SOLIDWORKS) and 2D detailing (AutoCAD)
  • Strong mechanical and machine building aptitude
  • Knowledge of ANSI drawing standards and GD&T
  • Computer proficiency, MS Suite -Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Experience managing aspects of a project, leading a team, and working independently
  • Basic understanding of sensor selection, teaching and vision systems
  • Knowledge of servos and stepper motors
  • Experience deploying robotic systems
  • Robust analytical thinking and trouble shooting skills
  • Strong English literacy and communication skills.
