Graduate Teaching Assistant, (Water Security)Graduate Teaching Assistant, (Water Security)

Duties and AccountabilitiesThe nature of the work is immediately associated with the support and delivery of instruction of courses in the Master of Water Security (MWS) program.

Reporting to the course instructors, the TA’s general duties and responsibilities will be to:

  • Communicate with students about lectures and activities, course content, group project work, assignments, and deliverables.
  • Support hybrid-blended course delivery, including helping facilitate breakout rooms, chat tools, document sharing, video sharing, and file sharing during live sessions online, and/or helping facilitate in person cohorts.
  • Participate in discussion forums with students; attend synchronous sessions and facilitate breakout groups; support asynchronous learning
  • Grade assignments (if needed)
  • Manage discussion boards and emails in CANVAS
  • Manage CANVAS and online content


Required Number of Hours: up to 120 hours
Duration of Employment: 2024–2025 Regular Session (Fall 2024/Winter 2025)
Start and End Dates: 1 September 2024–30 April 2025

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge and training in the area of water security, including related coursework
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills—proficiency with computer applications and software including Microsoft applications, CANVAS, Zoom. Fluency with Python, ArcGIS and QGIS is preferred.
  • Ability to support diverse and inclusive classrooms
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills
  • Proven ability to ensure deadlines are met

Qualifications

  • Minimum enrollment in a PhD program in SENS
  • Current grade point average of 80% or higher
  • Must be located in Saskatoon as the position requires some in-person support/attendance
  • Previous teaching assistant experience would be an asset.
  • PhD students must not be beyond the 5 th  year of their program
