Job Description

As a Strategic Finance Partner in Protection line of business, we focus on making time, information, and decisions more effective in managing Business Performance of Global Protection. To do so, you will support MVP, Strategic Finance Partner, Protection to

  • translate global protection strategy into business plan complete with challenging but realistic metrics to measure and improve performance. This includes cueing and enabling Global Protection to grow in a scalable manner.
  • monitor, understand and explain drivers of business performance across Global Protection lines of business and translate that into actionable insights so that Global Protection Executive Committee (GPEC) can set out, prioritise, and make strategic business moves to grow the business while pivoting as and when needed i.e., make decisions at the right time.
  • create and use storyboards to support EVP, Protection in presenting the Global Protection Business to internal and external parties.
  • connect workstreams, connect information through appropriate mediums within Global Protection without which teams may operate in silos.
  • bridge Global Protection teams and wider PL Re, particularly Business Services fostering a culture where information is shared both ways consistently and timely.

Furthermore in performing this specific responsibility, the incumbent works closely with the MVP, Protection, Europe & North America and act as the “go-to” regarding any questions around business performance. As such, they work closely with the members of the local Market Leadership Committees (MLCs).

To carry out the responsibilities of this role, the incumbent will leverage the support of the global Business Services team. This team services the company’s lines of business by the timely and accurate provision of financial information needed for running the business. To do this, there needs to be a consistent and regular flow of information between the market and business services teams, and the incumbent will have responsibility to ensure that this flow of information is effective and consistent within their regions.

Key Responsibilities

Supporting the MLCs to develop the protection strategy of the Europe and North America markets

Leveraging the business services team, translate the Europe and North America market strategies agreed by the MLCs into a well-considered and approved business plan with challenging yet realistic metrics for each area of the business

Understanding and mastering the drivers of performance across the Europe and North America protection markets and clearly communicating to the MLCs the performance of the business versus the target metrics as well as the look-forward consequences to all areas of the business. This includes performing analysis at geography level ( Europe, North America ) and/or at Global Protection level, preparing presentations and ensuring information flow within Global Protection through appropriate mediums.

Acting as a bridge between the market teams in Europe and North America and the global business services teams by:

  • Ensuring that there are in place people and processes to ensure a consistent flow of information between those teams; and
  • There is a culture of collaboration and sharing between those teams as championed by themselves and their direct reports

To support the MVP, Protection, Europe and North America by performing various ad-hoc analysis as and when required

Qualifications & Expertise
  • At least 8 years’ experience in operating in (re)insurance. Experience in the markets that PL Re focuses on is preferred.
  • Deep understanding of the technical basis of reinsurance business as well as financial reporting regimes including US GAAP/LDTI and IFRS17. Qualified Actuary or Certified Accountant preferred.
  • Excellent communicator, who can effectively present difficult concepts to a variety of audiences, and able to make sense of numbers and explain business performance drivers in layman terms.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and able to work with people across the organisation.
  • Big-picture thinker, who can filter and gather relevant information from across functions and piece them together to form business recommendations and insights.
  • Strong analytical skills, combined with sound judgement, commercial awareness and thus able to provide justifiable and practical recommendations to critical business decisions, make high quality decisions even where information is sparse or difficult to work with.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of risk frameworks and controls.
