The Role

Reporting to the Director of Information Security, members in this role are technical team members who will contribute to the day-to-day delivery of MCAP’s information security program, operations, and security compliance efforts.

This position supports the Security team in hunting and protecting the organization from cyber threats. Members in this role directly work with internal and external parties to conduct security incident response activities.

The role works to assess and manage MCAP’s operations for threats and vulnerabilities.They will produce technical reports and conduct briefings while supporting teams with threat and vulnerability remediation activities.

As a Sr. Security Engineer this role works to manage and leverage the third-party security operations centre (SOC) to meet MCAP’s service level expectations.

This position plays an important role, ensuring appropriate security governance, controls and capabilities are in place and operating effectively.Members in this role will recommend and drive changes that will improve all aspects of MCAP’s security.

  • Contribute to MCAP’s capability to detect, investigate, respond to, and recover from information security incidents to minimize business impact
  • Conduct real time tactical management of security events
  • Lead and guide SOC and MCAP IT Teams to investigate and respond to security incidents
  • Review and analyze security logs and reports from a variety of sources including security tools, servers, network devices and recommend and implement improvements for an improved security posture
  • Support the team in protecting the organization from cyber threats, monitoring ongoing operations, and supporting the development of an organization resilient to security incidents.
  • Support and assist in the maintenance of the vulnerability management program including remediation.
  • Support and assist in measurement of compliance (e.g. hardening standards, security capabilities)
  • Perform regular vulnerability management reporting and other security ad hoc reporting as required
  • Assist in the coordination, facilitation, and consolidation of internal and external audits and related remediation efforts.
  • Research and maintain an awareness of emerging or escalating security risks.
  • Identify and articulate problem areas, innovate and solve with solutions within the role’s mandate
  • Participate in the management of corporate security tools, technology and appliances to ensure they are operating effectively (e.g. SOC, SIEM, Scanning, hardening)
  • Contribute to the architecture, selection and design of security strategies to identify, protect, detect, respond to and recover from security threats
  • Participate in vulnerability assessments, security audits, and penetration tests and resolution of any findings.
  • Assist with the testing and implementing of best-of-breed security products and services.
  • Produce detailed incident reports and technical briefs.
  • Create and execute regular phishing campaigns
  • Create and or participate in regular security testing and exercises
  • Perform system access reviews, audits and security administration activities
  • Contribute and participate in the development of security standards, operating procedures, response playbooks
  • Contribute to information security issues related to audit responses and risk management activities.

What You Bring To The Team

  • Troubleshooting experience in IT environments
  • Minimum of 6-9 years in information security
  • Experience and/or strong knowledge of security tools (e.g., SIEM, IDS/IPS, NAC, AV, Endpoint protection, DLP, EDR, WAF, email security (DKIM, DMARC), web technology security, application security, PAM, CASB, SASE)
  • Experience and/or strong knowledge of networking security (e.g., firewalls, TCP, SSL/TLS, DNS, SSO, MFA, hardening, zoning, CIS)
  • Experience and/or knowledge of enterprise server platforms, virtualized technology and cloud operations
  • Application lifecycle management knowledge and experience (Azure DevOps, JIRA, Jenkins, Git etc.)
  • Secure code practices and related tools (DAST, SAST, OWASP)
  • Agile software development practices and disciplines
  • Scripting knowledge in PowerShell, Bash, Python are an asset
  • Programming knowledge in C#, SQL, Excel Power Query are an asset
  • Formal IT & security accreditations such as (ITIL, Security+, CompTIA A+, Network+ etc.)
  • Must be certified as CISSP or CISM
  • A degree or diploma in a relevant area of study with preference for information security or computer science/engineering
