We are looking for an exceptional, experiencedSocial Studies Teacher to join our Morven Campus (Grades 8-12). The ideal candidate is a caring and passionate educator who is both engaging and innovative. The candidate is a collaborative educator who demonstrates excellence in instructional and assessment practices and who is committed to ongoing professional growth. The candidate will contribute to the many facets of school life, which will include coaching and extra-curricular responsibilities. This is a Permanent Full-Time position that will start on August 23, 2024.


Responsibilities

  • Deliver the Social Studies curriculum at or beyond the Ministry requirements
  • Create a learning environment that enables individual learners to thrive within a highly motivated learning environment
  • Teach both Middle (8-9) and Senior (10-12) Social Studies classes; this may include a role teaching a Grade 8 or 9 Humanities class or as a grade team and/or AP course leader
  • Experience or an interest in teaching AP World History an asset
  • Build a classroom environment that engages students, provides accessible instruction to improve understanding and allows students a variety of options to show what they know and can do
  • Engage in ongoing professional development; be motivated and willing to take risks in the implementation of current pedagogical and assessment practice


Required qualifications

  • Bachelor of Education
  • Experience teaching Social Studies and implementing Historical Thinking Skills at the high school level; AP experience an asset, but not required
  • Strong problem solving and organizational skills
  • Certified (or in the process of becoming certified) by the British Columbia Ministry of Education
  • Basic First Aid
  • Canadian residency and legally entitled to work in Canada
