Senior Director, Finance and Operations

The Senior Director, Finance and Operations is a strategic leader who leads the evolution of CANARIE’s corporate services, including finance, procurement, financial systems, and program operations. The Senior Director, Finance and Operations is accountable for directing the evolution of the organization’s financial, procurement and program operations strategies and for the optimization of operational practices and processes to deliver reliable results with the highest accuracy and integrity.

This is a full-time, permanent position that reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

  • Provide leadership to staff, including ongoing coaching and staff development
  • Develop and maintain productive and positive working relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders to achieve corporate objectives
  • Translate strategic corporate goals into team operational objectives and provide leadership for their successful implementation
  • Ensure that CANARIE’s finances are managed according to legislation, policies, funding agreements, and Canadian GAAP
  • Lead the evolution of CANARIE’s ERP and other operational tools
  • Develop financial strategies and facilitate the on-going evolution of CANARIE’s finance and corporate policies
  • Direct the evolution of CANARIE’s procurement policy and processes
  • Lead the development and implementation of organization-wide standards for operational management, including financial, procurement, contract management, and program operations
  • Direct the operational and financial aspects of CANARIE’s programs
  • Travel may occasionally be required
  • Other related duties and responsibilities, as required
The Ideal Candidate

To excel at CANARIE, you have a demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively on teams and are also an energetic self-starter with the self-motivation to work independently. You have excellent oral and written communication skills, and can count time management, problem solving, and managing multiple priorities as your strengths. You also share a dedication to CANARIE’s core values: service, teamwork, inclusion, innovation, quality, and integrity.

Bilingualism is preferred.

What You BringEducation and Experience
  • College diploma or university degree in business or a suitable combination of education, experience, or other relevant training
  • Minimum of 10 years of related and progressive work experience in senior finance and operational leadership roles
  • Experience leading corporate procurement systems is desirable
Skills
  • Exceptional leadership skills
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and guide solutions
  • Proven ability to develop and implement multi-year budgets and financial forecasts
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with all levels in an organization
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and strategically
  • Ability to interpret and implement policies and procedures
  • Excellent ability to research, assess, source, and implement business solutions
  • Knowledge and experience with federal government grants and contributions and federal policy initiatives is desirable
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite
  • Working experience in ERP applications and related reporting tools
  • Working experience with procurement solutions is desirable
  • Working experience with contract management solutions is desirable
