Together with our partners across the country, we work to ensure that Canada leads in research and innovation.The Position: Senior Director, Finance and OperationsThis is a full-time, permanent position that reports to the Chief Financial Officer. The Senior Director, Finance and Operations is a strategic leader who leads the evolution of CANARIE’s corporate services, including finance, procurement, financial systems, and program operations. The Senior Director, Finance and Operations is accountable for directing the evolution of the organization’s financial, procurement and program operations strategies and for the optimization of operational practices and processes to deliver reliable results with the highest accuracy and integrity.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide leadership to staff, including ongoing coaching and staff developmentDevelop and maintain productive and positive working relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders to achieve corporate objectivesTranslate strategic corporate goals into team operational objectives and provide leadership for their successful implementationEnsure that CANARIE’s finances are managed according to legislation, policies, funding agreements, and Canadian GAAPLead the evolution of CANARIE’s ERP and other operational toolsDevelop financial strategies and facilitate the on-going evolution of CANARIE’s finance and corporate policiesDirect the evolution of CANARIE’s procurement policy and processesLead the development and implementation of organization-wide standards for operational management, including financial, procurement, contract management, and program operationsDirect the operational and financial aspects of CANARIE’s programsTravel may occasionally be requiredOther related duties and responsibilities, as requiredThe Ideal CandidateTo excel at CANARIE, you have a demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively on teams and are also an energetic self-starter with the self-motivation to work independently. You have excellent oral and written communication skills, and can count time management, problem solving, and managing multiple priorities as your strengths. You also share a dedication to CANARIE’s core values: service, teamwork, inclusion, innovation, quality, and integrity.Bilingualism is preferred. What You BringEducation and ExperienceCPA designation in good standingCollege diploma or university degree in business or a suitable combination of education, experience, or other relevant trainingMinimum of 10 years of related and progressive work experience in senior finance and operational leadership rolesExperience leading corporate procurement systems is desirableSkillsExceptional leadership skillsAbility to analyze complex problems and guide solutionsProven ability to develop and implement multi-year budgets and financial forecastsProven ability to communicate effectively with all levels in an organizationExcellent analytical and problem-solving skillsDemonstrated ability to think critically and strategicallyAbility to interpret and implement policies and proceduresExcellent ability to research, assess, source, and implement business solutionsKnowledge and experience with federal government grants and contributions and federal policy initiatives is desirableTechnical ProficienciesWorking knowledge of the Microsoft Office suiteWorking experience in ERP applications and related reporting toolsWorking experience with procurement solutions is desirableWorking experience with contract management solutions is desirableCome Work with UsWe are committed to employment equity and encourage anyone who can contribute to the diversification of ideas and perspectives to apply.
