Power BI Developer - Montreal

Multiple positions available for 2 clients in Montreal - two intermediate + two senior.

Must have strong MS Power BI, YAML, and JavaScript experience; financial experience is preferred but not mandatory.

French skills / Bilingual is NOT needed.

Responsibilities:
  1. Design, develop, and maintain Power BI visualizations and reporting solutions.
  2. Translate business requirements into sustainable and efficient visualizations and reporting.
  3. Craft and execute complex DAX queries within Power BI.
  4. Integrate Power BI reports into other applications using embedded analytics like Power BI service (SaaS) or by API automation.
  5. Utilize YAML for configuration purposes and to manage CI/CD pipelines for automated deployment of Power BI reports and dashboards.
  6. Use JavaScript to create custom visuals or to enhance the interactivity of Power BI reports.
  7. Optimize Power BI dashboards with a focus on usability, performance, flexibility, testability, and standardization.
  8. Troubleshoot data and report issues and implement bug fixes.
  9. Liaise with data engineers and back-end teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.
  10. Train and support business users across the company on Power BI usage and best practices.
  11. Stay current with Power BI updates, new versions, and capabilities as well as best practices in data visualization and BI reporting.
Requirements:
  1. Strong BI background.
  2. Strong SQL Skills - 7+ years.
  3. Proficient in Power BI development, including the creation of complex DAX expressions.
  4. Experience in writing JavaScript code and using it within the context of Power BI.
  5. Familiarity with YAML syntax and its use in configuration files and automation (6+ months).
  6. Strong understanding of database management, SQL, and data warehousing principles.
  7. Proven abilities to take initiative and be innovative.
  8. Analytical mind with a problem-solving aptitude.
  9. Experience in Data Modeling and Semantic Modeling.
  10. Financial services background preferred.
Nice to Have:
  1. Experience in tools like Cube Dev, AtScale, Kyvos.
  2. Experience with other BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Qlik) is a plus.
  3. Knowledge of additional programming languages (e.g., Python, R) is beneficial.
  4. Understanding of ETL processes and data integration across various sources.

Work Location: Downtown Montreal, Canada - in-office 3 days per week.

Perm/FT role, salary and benefits OR Contract (6 months to start) at market rate.
