The Thornton Tomasetti Acoustics, Noise and Vibration team deliver projects controlling noise and vibration that can be critical to the success of a building. Perfecting the acoustics in a concert hall. Making it easier for students to concentrate in class. Limiting uncomfortable sway in tall buildings. Protecting industrial workers from hearing loss. Keeping sensitive medical imaging equipment rock steady. Complying with national or local regulations. Preventing your construction activity from damaging nearby structures. We have the expertise, and the team is growing.

The goal of an acoustics engineer is, maximizing occupant safety and comfort in all types of structures – new and old – and tuning listening spaces for optimal acoustics.

The Role:

  1. You’ll be part of a local team of industry-leading specialists delivering projects globally.
  2. The role will require managing multiple projects, with direct interaction with clients, architects, engineers, and contractors.
  3. You’ll also be responsible for revenue generation with project pursuits including developing proposals and client presentations.

Responsibilities:

  1. Addressing challenging problems with local and international clients.
  2. Data collection, modeling, post-processing, analysis documentation of results.
  3. Conducting field measurements and inspections.
  4. Project team leadership, and the development of junior engineers.
  5. Writing technical reports covering methodology, results and recommendations.
  6. Preparing proposals, marketing materials and/or technical papers.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science, advanced degrees an asset.
  2. A minimum of 8 years of experience in acoustic, noise and vibration control.
  3. Familiarity and experience with the use of a variety of sound and vibration measurement instruments and modeling software (e.g., CADNA/A, STAMSON, etc.).
  4. Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and guidelines.
  5. Ability to deliver quality technical work while respecting budgets and schedules.
  6. Proven experience in successfully dealing with regulatory agencies on behalf of clients.
  7. Knowledge of physical acoustics and regulatory permitting requirements.
  8. Ability to interpret process flow/mechanical/electrical drawings.
  9. Keen to provide supervision and mentorship to junior staff.
