Step 'n Stride Event Volunteer

Parkinson Association of Alberta invites you to volunteer with us on September 7, 8, and 14, 2024, at our 12th annual Step ‘n Stride charity fundraiser This signature event brings together members of the community all across Alberta as we walk as one to raise funds for Parkinson disease treatment.

We have a variety of roles and opportunities We will work with you to find a good fit among our volunteer roles.

Volunteer Positions:
  1. Event Set-up: Set up banners/signage, registration/volunteer areas, food and beverage areas, place route markers on the course, and assist the staff with equipment arrangement (tables/chairs, etc.). Volunteers need to be comfortable with physical labour and lifting heavier objects
  2. First Aid: Be onsite for our outdoor Parkinson Step ‘n Stride, to provide standard first aid treatment for injuries not considered serious, which may include cleaning injured areas and applying antiseptic, salves, ointments, or bandages.
  3. Registration/Check In: This is where all teams/individuals must first stop to confirm their arrival and drop off their offline pledges. This is also the first stop for spectators wishing to register. Volunteers at this area must be excellent communicators, organized, and energized to greet our teams and spectators
  4. Parking/Access Patrol: Assist with directing vendors to designated event areas and ensure all vehicles using event areas obey the rules of the pathways. You will have a list to check off names using the event list provided. You will need access patrol in front and behind the vehicles on pathways. Blinkers on and do not exceed 5 to 10 km/h.
  5. Kids Zone: Lots of fun There are lawn games to play. Help engage our children and youth in this space
  6. Food and Beverage: This is where the gathering happens Assist our food and beverages sponsor with keeping the park as clean as we found it.
  7. Route Marshals: The Route Marshals will be stationed at the start/finish lines and 1 km, 3 km, and 5 km turn-around points to help with directing teams, ensuring the safety of all participants, and cheering them on
  8. Event Takedown: Help clean up our event site and take down banners/signage, tables and chairs, registration/incentive areas, food and beverage area, removing garbage and route markers. We need volunteers who can lift heavier objects and are not afraid to get their hands dirty.
