JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Senior Manager, Regulatory Affairs.

Reporting to the Director, Nuclear Regulatory Affairs Strategy, the Senior Manager, Regulatory Affairs will lead and manage all regulatory activities to ensure compliance with nuclear industry regulations and standards. This role involves strategic planning, preparation, and submission of regulatory documents, and maintaining relationships with regulatory agencies. The Senior Manager will lead a team of regulatory professionals and work closely with other departments to support our nuclear projects.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

-Maintain and enhance the relationship with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) for nuclear stations nuclear projects, and support divisions through effective management of the regulatory interface, including the development and maintenance of regulatory programs and processes.
-Acquire those licenses, approvals, and permissions from the CNSC necessary to operate or support the nuclear stations and nuclear projects.
-Assist management (nuclear stations, nuclear refurbishment project, and/or nuclear support divisions) in complying with the terms and conditions of the Nuclear Safety and Control Act and its associated regulations, licenses, and approvals granted by the CNSC.
-Identify and report on key regulatory matters to stakeholders.
-Assess impacts of license and permit applications and amendments.
-Interpret regulatory and legislative requirements.
-Ensure regulatory commitments are identified, assigned and monitored to completion.
-Manage the station, projects’, or support groups' interface with the CNSC.
-Provide scheduled and unscheduled reports to the CNSC in accordance with Regulatory Documents 3.1.1 and 3.1.2.
-Coordinate Ontario Power Generation Nuclear appearances at meetings and hearings of the CNSC.
-Prepare or review requests for renewal or, and amendments to, the station's operating license(s).
-Manage verbal and written communications with the CNSC.
-Provide advice and support on the management and resolution of regulatory issues.
-Act as Designated Licensing Authority as described by OPG governance.
-Regulatory Affairs Senior Managers have the following additional accountabilities specific to their location:
-Site Regulatory Affairs Managers:
-Coordinate regulatory approvals for outages.
-Control revisions to Operating Policies and Principles.
-Nuclear Regulatory Affairs Managers:
-Develop and maintain programs and processes for the management of the regulatory interface.
-Assess and provide reports on the effectiveness of the regulatory interface.
-Maintain an awareness of, or input to, external developments on regulatory requirements, and coordinate the development of OPG regulatory strategies and positions.

EDUCATION

-Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or engineering discipline (e.g., Nuclear Engineering, Physics, Chemistry). Advanced degree (e.g., Master’s, PhD) preferred.
-QUALIFICATIONS
-Minimum of 7+ years of experience leading teams
-Minimum of 5+ years of experience in regulatory affairs
-Proven track record of successful regulatory submissions and approvals.
-Experience with nuclear regulatory agencies considered an asset (e.g., NRC, CNSC, IAEA).
-Strong understanding of nuclear regulatory requirements and guidelines.
-Excellent project management and organizational skills.
-Effective leadership and team management abilities.
-Strong written and verbal communication skills.
-Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
-Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
