Support Staff Temporary Part-time Position
We require a qualified individual to support faculty members by performing various tasks such as the set up, operation, and maintenance of equipment, as well as demonstrating skills to students and completing more specific instructions and ordering and maintaining inventory. The successful candidate will also provide technical support in matters of a complex nature that require a high degree of independent judgment, technical specialization, and experience. This position will focus on supporting the Heavy Construction Equipment Operator (HCEO) Program.
Our successful candidate would work on campus five days per week, and would typically be scheduled for hours Monday through Friday, between 12:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
Responsibilities:- Demonstrates practical skills and the safe use of equipment to students
- Provides remedial instruction to those students requiring further assistance in mastering required practical skills
- Maintains shop facilities and equipment including repairs and preventative maintenance to equipment or sub-contracting the repairs of equipment within the scope of practice as required
- Evaluates and maintains inventory management system of equipment, equipment manuals, and supplies; prepares purchase requisitions for student and shop supplies and machine parts
- Assists coordinators in procurement processes; ensuring competitive process, verifying pricing, and receiving quotes
- Collaborates with the Health and Safety department by providing documentation and reports, updating shop binders, documenting inventory of supplies and equipment, maintenance repair, shipping, and assessment of hazardous goods
- Establishes and prepares Gift in Kind documentation and works with industry to secure donations for shops, assists in the negotiation of consumables with suppliers
- Works closely with the Purchasing department to ensure supplies and equipment are ordered according to college policies, provides monthly credit card documentation
- Organizes and prepares the instructional environment to support the demonstration of practical skills based on established learning objectives
- Develops workshop activities and projects, set-ups and delivers workshop activities for visiting non-college students
College Certificate in Heavy Construction Equipment Operation, or Certificate of Qualification as a Heavy Equipment Operator (636A, 636B, or 636C) is required
Five years of related practical experience in the heavy construction industry
Additional certification in heavy construction, motive power, or construction trades would be an asset
Must be flexible and organized
Must possess excellent human relations skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Leadership and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently or as part of a team
Assessment and evaluation skills
Good computer skills
A strong understanding of the OHSA and Construction Regulations, as they pertain to heavy equipment, PPE, and vehicles
Ability to operate a small bulldozer, including rough and fine grading an asset
