The Nurse Technologist plays a key role in supporting simulated learning, open access labs, and dispensary functions within the . This position supports the demonstration, supervision, and facilitation of practical skills required by students enrolled in health sciences programs. The incumbent is responsible for assisting in the operations of the lab spaces and providing remediations to students as identified. The incumbent assists in preparing students with the skills that must be demonstrated within the professional practice environment before being applied in the clinical setting.

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department by working onsite at the Doon campus in Kitchener five days a week, from Monday to Friday, 7:30am-3:30pm.

Responsibilities:

Operates mannequin physiology and voices mannequin for scenarios in Cross Centre for Simulation Learning Participates in simulation events acting as an allied health professional or family members in simulation scenarios Troubleshoots, in conjunction with Simulation Specialist, any issues which develop during scenario such as audio/visual or connectivity issues with mannequins Ensures the proper scenario fidelity through provision of appropriate moulage, props and mannequins Assists Simulation Specialist with the set-up and tear down of simulation suites and debrief rooms Facilitates student learning of the practical application of skills for health sciences programs through Open Access Learning activities Organizes for the effective delivery of skills demonstration, using the pre-determined criteria available in the health sciences programs Modifies experiential learning activities as required to observe students’ ability to demonstrate practice capability and decision making, in accordance with program outcomes Records equipment and supply usage, and other data Models and demonstrates professional practice and conducts assessment of skills for individuals or groups of students Provides remedial skill assistance to students for skill development as required Utilizes a web-based booking system platform to support student-driven appointments Documents observations and informs faculty regarding students’ ability to meet established standards by using pre-determined assessment tools Continuous maintenance and cleanliness of the lab environment Assists in the management of equipment and consumable supplies for daily clinical activities Responds to all faculty communications related to supply and equipment issues in clinical labs Pulls and assembles required equipment on supply carts for next day’s events Restocks supply carts and care desk cupboards with consumable supplies Cleans and maintains returned equipment, including laundering of soiled linens and towels Identifies and completes necessary equipment repairs within capabilities Orders, processes, receives, and catalogues instructional and consumable supply requests Inputs “pull sheets”, inventory, etc. into inventory database and maintains accounting documentation for supply orders by reviewing invoices to ensure receipt of items ordered Accepts, sorts, and processes donations Obtains vendor quotes and seeks appropriate approvals for supply requests using the College’s financial accounting software based on value of purchase Provides initial and ongoing orientation to faculty, staff and learners, when required Participates in the development of the annual Capital Equipment budget

Qualifications:

Four-year BScN Degree Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurse’s of Ontario Minimum five years of acute care clinical experience in a healthcare agency Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with faculty and students High level organizational skills Assertive and self-motivated, to develop and maintain the lab as a relevant dynamic learning resource Creative ability to develop methods of enhancing the facilitation of learning Technical proficiency in maintaining inventory management database Inventory control experience or dispensary functions in a healthcare environment is an asset Experience with anatomical models, task trainers and physiologic mannequins is an asset Access to a reliable means of transportation as travel may be required
