BJ Take Lighting is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Financial Controller to oversee all accounting and financial operations while actively managing the day-to-day Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) functions. This is a hands-on role ideal for a finance professional who enjoys both strategic financial oversight and transactional accounting responsibilities.
The Financial Controller will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing cash flow, producing timely financial reporting, administering payroll, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting business decision-making through financial analysis.
The ideal candidate will have experience working within an ERP environment, preferably Epicor Kinetic, and will be comfortable managing both strategic financial responsibilities and day-to-day accounting operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes.
- Monitor and analyze company financial performance.
- Prepare budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
- Develop and maintain internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to ownership and management.
- Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, financial institutions, and government agencies.
- Support strategic planning and business decision-making through financial analysis and reporting.
Accounts Payable
- Process vendor invoices and ensure timely payments.
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
- Manage payment schedules and cash requirements.
- Maintain accurate AP records and supporting documentation.
Accounts Receivable
- Generate customer invoices and statements.
- Monitor collections and follow up on overdue accounts.
- Reconcile customer accounts and resolve billing issues.
- Maintain accurate AR aging reports.
- Work closely with customers and internal stakeholders to improve collection performance.
Payroll & Compliance
- Process payroll and related filings.
- Ensure compliance with applicable tax regulations and reporting requirements.
- Prepare and remit HST/GST, payroll taxes, and other statutory filings.
- Support year-end preparation, including T4s and other required reporting
ERP & Process Improvement
- Utilize and maintain Epicor Kinetic ERP to manage financial data and reporting.
- Support continuous improvement of accounting processes, controls, and reporting capabilities.
- Assist with system enhancements, data integrity, and user support within the ERP environment.
- Leverage ERP functionality to improve operational efficiency and financial visibility.
General Accounting
- Perform bank, credit card, and account reconciliations.
- Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts.
- Monitor cash flow and working capital requirements.
- Assist with process improvements and system enhancements.
- Ensure accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting.
- Experience managing AP, AR, payroll, and month-end financial reporting.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with ERP systems in a manufacturing, industrial, or distribution environment.
- Experience using Epicor Kinetic ERP or a comparable ERP system, with Epicor Kinetic experience strongly preferred.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA designation or CPA candidate.
- Experience in a manufacturing, distribution, or industrial environment.
- Experience with financial forecasting, budgeting, and cash flow management.
- Experience with Epicor Kinetic ERP strongly preferred, including financial reporting, AP/AR management, inventory accounting, and month-end close processes.
- Knowledge of Canadian accounting standards, HST/GST filings, payroll compliance, and year-end reporting requirements.
