Technical Operations

emergiTEL is hiring a Technical Operations & Compliance Lead. This is a Permanent role.

Compensation: $112,000 - $140,000/year

Location: Montreal

About the Role

• Join a fast-growing, 20-person Travel Tech startup and lead the operational engine supporting the engineering team.
• Bridge technical execution, resource forecasting, financial tracking, and security compliance.
• Build structure, improve engineering velocity, optimize costs, and strengthen the organization's security posture.

Key Responsibilities

• Velocity & Capacity Management
  • Own and manage Jira architecture, workflows, dashboards, and reporting.
  • Track sprint progress and team performance.
  • Develop resource capacity models and provide data-driven insights to support efficient delivery and prevent burnout.
  • Support engineering teams working across JavaScript, React, Python, and AWS environments.
• Financial Oversight & Project Costing
  • Track internal development effort and external resource allocations against project budgets.
  • Monitor and optimize AWS cloud spending and SaaS licensing costs.
  • Support project costing and budget management initiatives.
• Team Leadership & People Operations
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for technical team members.
  • Support career development and growth planning.
  • Manage onboarding, offboarding, and day-to-day team administration.
• Security & Compliance (SOC 2)
  • Own and maintain the SOC 2 compliance framework.
  • Ensure internal controls, access management, and security documentation remain current and audit-ready.
  • Oversee identity and access management processes across AWS and Bitbucket.
  • Collaborate with auditors and support continuous compliance efforts.
  • Opportunity to progress into a designated CISO role based on experience and performance.
• Vendor & Stakeholder Management
  • Serve as the primary contact for technology vendors, external partners, and compliance auditors.
  • Manage vendor relationships and support contract and compliance activities.

Profile & Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of experience in technical project delivery, technical operations, or related functions.
• Proven success in startup, scale-up, or small agency environments.
• Strong technical understanding of full-stack application deployment, including React, Python, cloud infrastructure, and DevOps workflows.
• Advanced Jira administration experience, including workflow design, dashboard creation, reporting, and capacity planning.
• Experience leading, managing, or matrix-managing engineering teams.
• Strong communication skills, emotional intelligence, and stakeholder management abilities.
• Hands‑on exposure to SOC 2, security audits, identity and access management, or related compliance frameworks.
• Ability to thrive in fast‑paced environments and take ownership across multiple functions.
