Our client is a committed nonprofit organization serving as the provincial authority, tasked with overseeing the entire end-of-life processing of various materials is looking to employ a Director, Finance. This person oversees the financial operations of the organization. Additionally, they provide guidance to other departments on strategic planning to ensure that finance is aligned with organizational goals.

Director, Finance Responsibilities:

  • The Director, Finance oversees the development and enforcement of financial policies, procedures, and internal controls, ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks.
  • They manage financial and investment reporting, preparing accurate statements and materials for board meetings.
  • Additionally, they supervise financial analysis, data reporting, and budgeting processes, providing strategic insights and recommendations.
  • In financial operations management, they ensure effective cash management, payroll administration, and adherence to records management policies.
  • The Director, Finance also leads strategic initiatives, project development, and management, serving as a subject matter expert and driving innovation.
  • They provide leadership, mentorship, and foster a culture of high performance within the Finance team, while maintaining compliance with organizational policies and standards.
  • They support cross-functional collaboration, contribute to organizational goals, and perform other duties as required.


The successful candidate has:

  • The ideal candidate for this position should possess a university degree in business, accounting, or a related field and a CPA designation in good standing.
  • They must have a strong background in financial and accounting systems, including proficiency in Office 365 applications, particularly Excel and Power BI.
  • Excellent presentation skills are necessary for delivering financial results effectively to senior management, board committees, and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated management and leadership abilities, including delegation skills, are required, along with strong time management, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication, both verbal and written, is essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • The candidate should have at least seven years of related experience in senior financial management, including a minimum of five years of leadership experience at a senior level.
  • Desirable qualifications include experience in a regulatory or similar setting, payroll oversight or administration experience, Canadian Securities Course certification, and a Certificate in Risk Management.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will also be considered.


Compensation and benefits:

  • The discussed salary range is largely dependant on experience.
