We are seeking to hire a full-time, permanent Field Operations Technician based in Ottawa, ON Canada. Reporting into the Field Operations Manager, you will be responsible for the hands-on day-to-day integration, repair and maintenance of the Xplore network. You are a self-starter who works well both independently and as part of a greater team, with excellent organizational and communication skills. This position acts as a prime in-field technical contact for support groups in the areas of network construction, repair, maintenance and support.
This role requires basic knowledge of IP Networking, working knowledge of both fixed wireless and Fibre optic network deployments, as well as a basic knowledge of telecom construction and tower rigging. This position will involve both on call support and off-hours maintenance work. Some overnight travel is a requirement and you must be willing to adapt to flexible work schedule.
Key responsibilities include:
Strong problem solving, organizational, verbal, listening and written communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and interact with groups throughout the organization
Capable of working on a variety of projects and coordinating multiple priorities
Aptitude in IP networking which includes IP addressing and basic routing
Knowledge in telecom construction including: Fibre Optic and copper cabling, punching, proper cable pulling techniques, racking, ground systems, static precautions, non-ionizing transmission safety, Occupational Health and safety as it relates to construction
Strong understanding around AC and DC power systems and conversions including: voltage and wiring of single and poly-phase alternating current cables, direct current, and negative grounded direct current
Experience with identifying all major types of RF, Fiber and power connectors.
Experience with the construction and maintenance of communication tower sites
Strong troubleshooting skills
Strong organizational and time/task management skills
The ideal candidate will possess:
- 1-year related work experience or a degree/diploma from a related discipline
- Valid Driver’s License
- Excellent verbal, listening and written communication skills
- Experience with fixed wireless and Fibre optic network deployments
- Experience handling, configuring and installing Network Equipment (ex. Ericsson, Ceragon, Alpha DC Power Systems, Ciena, Cisco)
- Certified Fibre Optic Technician (CFOT) or equivalent experience would be an asset
- Experience with Fibre Optic troubleshooting tools & test sets (OTDR, Power Meters)
- Strong troubleshooting skills. The ability to break problems down using an Analytical approach
- Exposure to industry standards for Health & Safety, Construction & CSA
- Working knowledge of networking technologies including TCP/IP, routers, switches, DHCP
- Basic understanding of fixed wireless/ Fibre Optic network architecture and infrastructure.
- A credit card capable of carrying work related expenses
- The ability to work outside in all types of weather conditions

Basé à Drummondville, Sherbrooke, Trois Riviere (QC) et relevant du gérant des opérations sur le terrain, vous serez responsable de l’intégration, de la réparation et de l’entretien pratiques au quotidien du réseau Xplore. Vous aimez prendre des initiatives et travailler aussi bien de façon autonome qu’au sein d’une équipe, et vous avez des aptitudes marquées pour l’organisation et la communication. Le titulaire de ce poste agit à titre de principal interlocuteur technique sur le terrain pour les groupes de soutien dans les secteurs de la construction, de la réparation, de l’entretien et du soutien du réseau.
Ce poste requiert une connaissance de base du réseautage IP, des connaissances pratiques des déploiements de réseaux d’accès fixe sans fil et à fibre optique, ainsi qu’une connaissance de base de la construction et du montage de tours de télécommunications. Ce poste implique à la fois une assistance sur appel et des travaux d’entretien en dehors des heures de travail. Certains déplacements de nuit sont requis et vous devez être disposé à vous adapter à un horaire flexible.
Ses principales responsabilités comprennent:
- De solides compétences en matière de résolution de problèmes, d’organisation, d’écoute et de communications verbale et écrite

- Une connaissance de la construction dans le secteur des télécommunications, notamment : le câblage de fibre optique et de cuivre, le poinçonnage, les techniques appropriées de tirage de câbles, le rayonnage, les systèmes de mise à la terre, les précautions contre l’électricité statique, la sécurité des transmissions non ionisantes, et la santé et la sécurité au travail en lien avec la construction
- Une excellente compréhension des systèmes d’alimentation et des conversions en courant alternatif et continu, notamment : la tension et le filage des câbles à courant alternatif monophasé et polyphasé, le courant continu et le courant continu avec mise à la terre negative
- Une expérience de l’identification de tous les principaux types de connecteurs FR, de fibres optiques et d’alimentation
- Une expérience de la construction et de l’entretien de sites de tours de transmission
- De solides compétences en dépannage
- De solides compétences en gestion du temps et des tâches
Le candidat idéal doit posséder:
- Un an d’expérience professionnelle pertinente ou un diplôme/certificat dans une discipline connexe
- Un permis de conduire valide
- D’excellentes habiletés en matière de communications verbale et écrite et d’écoute
- Une expérience des déploiements de réseaux d’accès fixe sans fil et à fibre optique
- Une expérience de la manutention, de la configuration et de l’installation d’équipement de réseau (p. ex., Ericsson, Ceragon, Alpha DC Power Systems, Ciena et Cisco)
- Le titre de technicien certifié en fibres optiques (CFOT) ou une expérience équivalente constitue un atout
- Une expérience des ensembles d’outils et de tests de dépannage pour la fibre optique (réflectométrie, capteurs de puissance)
- De solides compétences en dépannage. La capacité de décomposer les problèmes à l’aide d’une approche analytique
- Une exposition aux normes de l’industrie en lien avec la santé et la sécurité, la construction et l’Association canadienne de normalisation (CSA)
- Des connaissances pratiques des technologies de réseautage, notamment du protocole TCP/IP, des routeurs, des commutateurs et du protocole DHCP
- Une compréhension fondamentale de l’architecture et de l’infrastructure des réseaux d’accès fixe sans fil et à fibre optique
- Une carte de crédit permettant d’imputer les dépenses professionnelles
