Working as part of a team, the Estimator / Project Manager will estimate and manage multidiscipline construction projects in the Provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia. Primary responsibilities will be the accurate and timely preparation of cost estimates, development of proposals, safety management, and supervising the delivery of infrastructure projects working with a team of highly experienced construction professionals. Additional responsibilities will include project financial management, sourcing project opportunities, scheduling, material procurement, quantity reconciliation, progress billing, development of operational procedures, and communicating with crews and sub-contractors to deliver projects as planned.


Position Accountabilities:

  • Manage and direct estimating and project teams through concise communication and coordination to meet project goals and objectives.
  • Source potential project opportunities and discuss viability with team.
  • Review tender specifications and drawings.
  • Attend pre-tender meetings.
  • Prepare quantity take-offs for project estimates and progress billing.
  • Deliver responsible estimates that are timely and accurate to ensure successful bidding, award, and delivery of project.
  • Generate project procedures consistent with contract documents while considering the requirement of the internal Health, Safety, and Environment Manual and other critical factors related to delivery.
  • Perform on-site observations and inspections to confirm compliance with contract documents.
  • Execute and maintain project budgets identifying inconsistencies with projected costs and construction quality and reporting to management.
  • Prepare monthly progress bills.
  • Review shop drawings and submittals required to execute contract requirements.

Customer Service:

  • Supervise construction projects to an elevated standard of service to meet owner requirements, by ensuring the project is being conducted as it was projected and addressing any required changes.
  • Develop relationships built on trust and credibility with consultants, owners, clients, subcontractors, suppliers, associates, and other identified stakeholders.

Learning and Development:

  • Partner with supervisor on aligning skills development with position requirements, present and future.
  • Take the initiative to learn and develop own skills to optimize delivery of accurate and timely project estimates and delivery of contracts.

Working Environment/Conditions:

Collaboration is key

  • Assemble and review deliverables in collaboration with other team members.
  • Collaborate with, advise, and assist team members in other groups and offices.

Flexible hours and overtime may be required given the nature of the construction industry.

Fast-paced work environment often with tight deadlines.

The position is both office and field based—it will require traveling and overnighting near a jobsite is often required in the summer months.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience in Heavy Civil Construction is preferred.
  • Post-Secondary Degree/Diploma in Engineering or Construction Management or related discipline.
  • Knowledge of construction process, construction drawings, specifications, schedules, budgets, and project management methodologies.
  • Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) is an asset.
  • Proficient using the complete Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team in an office and on a construction site.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean abstract.
