Number of Available positions: Vacancies: 2 Temporary Full-Time positions (up to 12 months) Location These positions are located at Duffin Creek Water Pollution Control Plant, Pickering, Ontario. 4th Class Operating Engineer - Duffin Creek This position is located at the Duffin Creek WPCP in Incineration.  The incineration facility is registered as a First-Class Power Plant with the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA).  The plant is in Pickering, Ontario.  Reporting to the District Supervisor/1st Class Chief Operating Engineer, the successful applicant will be responsible for assisting with the operation and maintenance of the Region's Incineration/Energy Recovery Plants and will ensure that equipment is functioning safely and efficiently on an assigned day and/or shift schedule as appropriate.The duties will include:- Perform operation and maintenance tasks as directed by the Shift Engineer, Assistant Shift Engineer, or 2nd Class Operating Engineer- Monitor and maintain the water treatment equipment and reading levels in plant systems according to protocols and programs to maintain the effectiveness of prescribed treatments- Take stock of chemicals, gas cylinders and maintain inventory- Receive goods from suppliers when assigned to shifts, such as oil, gas cylinders and chemical deliveries- Keep building and process equipment in a general clean/safe condition and initiate work orders as necessary in the CMMS system- Maintain cleanliness of Ash Room and bays and facilities as required- Maintain equipment lubrication preventative maintenance schedules throughout plant as well as sand levels in the hopper- Remove plant garbage and recyclables and place in appropriate bins- Record process variables according to applicable regulations due diligently- Report any variances from normal operations to the Shift Engineer, Assistant Shift Engineer, or 2nd Class Operating Engineer to mitigate risks of equipment and/or plant failure- Assist with operations by utilizing the Incineration Plant SCADA system- Collect sludge samples as per schedule- Perform duties of the 3rd Class Stationary Engineer when relieving for vacation periods and/or other shift coverage periods as scheduled- Perform other related duties as necessary to maintain efficient and safe operation of the plant facilitiesApplicants must:- Have a two-year post-secondary diploma in a related field- Hold a valid 4th Class Operating Engineers Certificate from TSSA- Have experience in computerized plant operations, performing maintenance on oil and gas-fired boilers and be thoroughly familiar with automatic combustion controls and all related ancillary  boiler room equipment- Have demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills- Be familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel- Have flexibility to work overtime, be on standby duty, and work 12-hour rotating shifts as scheduled- The ability to address diverse needs and systemic barriers when resolving challenges- Certification in related trades would be considered an asset 4th Class Operating Engineer Hourly Rates - Start Rate: $41.41     - Job Rate: $42.11 Conditions of Employment All applicants are expected to comply with the Region of Durham's Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct Policies throughout the recruitment process.
