Number of Available positions: Vacancies: 01 - Temporary Full time (35 hours per week) Inspector 3, Construction - Capital Projects Reporting to the Project Supervisor, this position is responsible to perform on site inspection and supervision of contractors retained by the Region for the installation of infrastructure projects, to ensure that all obligations of the contract are completed by the contractor as detailed on the contract documents. The Inspector ensures that accurate records are kept, quality control and assurance is maintained, and all applicable standards and specifications are met or exceeded. The incumbent will: Provide site inspection services on Plants, Registry Infrastructure Upgrades and MTO / Municipal partnership and Development projects Review site conditions and recommend design parameters and/or construction methodsPrepare as built sketchesReview contract documents for constructability, utility conflicts, errors or omissions prior to tenderingMaintain accurate records of payment quantities and completed workProvide progressive and final field measurements of tender items for monthly and/or final paymentResolve unforeseen construction and/or design related problemsLiaise with the public, other Regional departments, regulatory authorities, consultants and local municipal staffAdvise Supervisor on the extent and impact of construction change directivesForesee and/or respond directly to issues/questions presented by stakeholdersRegulate compliance with safety regulationsInspect and review contractors work procedure with respect to traffic protection plan and general safety-Compile daily work records and track daily quantities Attend various training to stay current with all legislation and Regional practicesThe successful applicant will possess: A two-year post-secondary diploma in Civil Engineering or in a related disciplineRegistration or eligible for registration as a Technician with O.A.C.E.T.T.Several years of related work experienceKnowledge and understanding of Regional design guidelines for potable water and wastewater treatment and distribution systems, road construction, construction surveying principles, plant operation procedures, construction contract tendering procedures, appurtenance testing, sampling and disinfection of watermainsKnowledge and understanding of OPS and CCDC Contracts, Region of Durham Standards and Specifications for construction projects, Region of Durham Design Guidelines and Standard Drawings, Ontario Provincial Standards and Specification (OPSS and OPSD) and Ministry of Transportation Traffic Control ManualEffective verbal and written communication, customer service, negotiation, conflict resolution, problem solving, time management and organizational skillsExperience working with Intranet, Data Portals and Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel)A valid Ontario Class 'G' Driver's Licence and use of a reliable vehicle CUPE 1764 Salary Grade 7 This position is with Salary Grade 7 and will be paid at the following hourly rates:- Start: $47.00 - Six Month: $49.61 - Job: $52.22 Conditions of Employment All applicants are expected to comply with the Region of Durham's Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct Policies throughout the recruitment process.
