The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Waterloo invites applications for the following faculty positions with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2026. a.   Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in the area of Computer Systems Software: candidates are sought with a proven research record in building, evaluating, experimenting‐with and scaling‐of computer systems software with contributions being publishable in operating systems, database systems or distributed systems venues.b.   Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in the area of Computer Hardware: candidates working in computer hardware and related areas of computer engineering, including but not limited to accelerator design, computer architecture, embedded systems, reconfigurable computing, electronic design automation, programming models for hardware, hardware security, novel memory architectures, and machine learning hardware systems. Applicants must have a PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Evidence of an actively developing research program is required. The positions will be at the rank of Assistant Professor but in exceptional cases, an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor will be considered.Duties for tenure-stream faculty includes research, teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, and supervising graduate students. The successful candidate will be equally committed to ensuring excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching as they are to research.The initial appointment will be for a 3-year probationary term, with a possibility of renewal for a second probationary term, and formal consideration for tenure thereafter based on outstanding performance.The successful applicant is required to have an engineering license for practice (full) or teaching (limited) in Canada, or to apply for a Canadian engineering license within the first year of joining the University. Due to program accreditation requirements, all new faculty members are required to obtain the license within five years of initial appointment at the University of Waterloo and maintain it during their employment at the University.The salary will be based on the qualifications, rank hired, and experience of the candidate, and can be expected to be typically ranging from $120,000 to $175,000, annually. For exceptionally qualified candidates, a higher annual salary will be considered.
