Location Our Long Term Care Division is currently seeking applications from post-secondary students who are interested in working as Student Maintenance Worker 1s from May to August 2026. Positions are available at the following locations: Fairview Lodge in WhitbyHillsdale Estates in OshawaHilldale Terraces in OshawaLakeview Manor in Oshawa Maintenance Worker 1 As a Student Maintenance Worker 1, you will:- Clean, sanitize, dust, vacuum and mop resident rooms and bathrooms, as well as non-resident areas - Replenish sanitation supplies as needed- Transport equipment, furnishing, supplies and resident belongings as needed- Perform grounds maintenance as assigned- Perform minor maintenance and repairs to building and equipment as needed- Perform routine building monitoring functions such as temperature checks and locking/unlocking of doors- Perform all laundry functions as requiredThe successful applicant will possess:- Proof of current enrolment in post-secondary studies, and must returning to their studies in Fall 2026- Previous maintenance experience is preferred- Demonstrated compliance with safe work practices- Proven communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to follow both oral and written instructions- Physical ability to perform the essential duties of the job Hourly Rate: The current hourly rate for this position is $22.58. Hours of Work: You must be available to work all shifts; shifts are from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm and 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm. You must also be available to work 2-3 weekends per month. Schedules are prepared based on operational needs of the home; we do not schedule based on your availability or around another employer's work schedule. Finally, you must also maintain reasonable availability to pick up extra shifts, over and above your posted schedule, to allow the home to meet operational needs and provide short-notice coverage. Conditions of Employment All applicants are expected to comply with the Region of Durham's Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct Policies throughout the recruitment process. The successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check dated within two (2) months from date of hire. Additionally, tuberculosis screening will be required in accordance with the FLTC Act (O.Reg. 246/22). Proof of education, qualifications and any other job bona fide requirements will also be collected. Finally, compliance with the Mask Fit Testing Program is required and will be coordinated as part of the orientation process.
