Zurich Canada is currently looking for a Senior Underwriter to join our Financial Institutions team to analyze and underwrite new and renewal Financial Lines business while building and maintaining strong relationships with broker partners.

Reporting to the Underwriting Manager, Financial Institutions and Professional Liability, you will regularly interact with the market, utilizing The Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework to underwrite and manage a portfolio of complex Financial Lines risks while ensuring a high level of service to customers. You will work alongside an experienced team in a collaborative and supportive environment with opportunities to deepen your technical knowledge, build relationships across the Canadian market and make an impact on a nationally managed portfolio.

What you will do

Use strong analytical skills to manage and develop a portfolio of Financial Institutions accounts in accordance with Zurich guidelines.

Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities to grow a profitable portfolio.

Maintain and expand a strong broker network, conducting broker and customer visits with a planned and well-prepared purpose.

Take a solution-oriented and customer-focused approach to foster, develop and maintain strong relationships with broker partners and customers.

Cross-sell other lines of business and services to Zurich customers, providing a One-Zurich solution across products and services.

Mentor and provide guidance to lower-level associates, where appropriate, to support team capability and growth.

Complete detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities and support strategic planning.

Demonstrate continuous learning and curiosity to grow with the Financial Lines team at Zurich and within the industry more broadly.

Develop and lead marketing presentations to new and existing brokers to promote Zurich’s capabilities and offerings.

Participate actively in business projects to enhance Zurich’s product and service offerings and proactively seek opportunities to improve business processes and value-add for customers.

Support ad-hoc projects as needed.

Job Qualifications - What You Bring To The Table Required:

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area

Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 1 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area

Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area

AND

Knowledge of line(s) of business and corresponding legal and regulatory guidelines

Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business

Experience with Microsoft Office

Preferred:

Bachelor’s Degree with 3 or more years’ experience in the commercial P&C underwriting area

Strong negotiation skills

Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

Advanced Microsoft Office skills
