Alberta-Pacific Forest Industries Inc. (Al-Pac) is seeking a Risk Assurance & Advisory Services Co-op Student to work out of our office in St. Albert, AB. The successful candidate will provide Internal Audit and J-SOX Internal Controls support to our Risk Assurance & Advisory Services team. This is a rewarding development opportunity for a post-secondary student majoring in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.

Responsibilities


Internal audit project responsibilities include:


  • Contribute to the provision of independent, objective assurance and consulting services designed to add value and improve the company operations.
  • Support the designing, planning, and completing detailed work and reviews of operations, processes, and controls.
  • Interacting with team members and discussing findings and recommendations from the internal audit projects.
  • Maintaining the credibility of the Internal Audit function by performing work in accordance with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) International Professional Standards.
  • Building positive and collaborative working relationships with team members.


J-SOX internal controls responsibilities include:


  • Supporting the reviewing company level controls, financial close and reporting process controls, process level controls, IT application controls and IT General controls.
  • Perform detailed work including, controls testing, identifying control gaps, and recommending remediation for deficiencies.
  • Assisting with researching new or technical subjects when required to support the internal controls work.


Education & Experience


  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree in business or related discipline.
  • Considered an Asset:
  • Effective MS Office Suite skills: Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Previous accounting or related experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail.


Other

  • Travel may be required to the millsite in Athabasca, Alberta
