The Boat Design Manager is responsible for managing and coordinating the design team’s efforts for 3D model development and extraction of complete Manufacturing Information (MI) in support of production activities. The Boat Design Manager ensures all designs meet customer and regulatory requirements while providing MI that ensures efficient production activities. The Boat Design Manager leads the design team using defined processes, metrics and key performance indicators to ensure all company and departmental goals and objectives are met and works to create a create a positive, collaborative environment that promotes trust, innovation, and open communication. The Boat Design Manager ensures that the company is keeping up with technological, industry and regulatory advancements. The position works closely with the President, Sales and Marketing, Supply Chain and Production personnel.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, guide, and motivate design teams
  • Skilled in team building and cultivating a collaborative, high-performance work environment.
  • Effectively coach, providing constructive feedback and promoting continuous improvement in design quality
  • Strong boat design and 3D modelling skills geared towards production
  • Knowledge of aluminum boat manufacturing
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks, AutoCAD and Rhino
  • Knowledge of CNC pathing software Familiar with geometry or master-part based modelling
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong customer services skills
  • Knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Windows, Office, and other applications

Lead

  • Drives the department to meet all goals and objectives
  • Build a strong, cohesive team through effective communication and leadership
  • Interacts with all personnel and departments while providing exceptional design support services
  • Provides close support to the design team members
  • Represents Titan Boats when interacting with customers, regulators, and auditors
  • Manages projects to ensure they are on time and budget
  • Trains and develops junior Designers
  • Develops a continuous improvement culture that promotes the belief that what is good enough today is not good enough for tomorrow

Design

  • Works closely with all departments to develop boat designs that our customers want
  • Ensures boat designs meet all customer and regulatory requirements
  • Provides accurate BOM’s, with MI, to the production departments
  • Works closely with Supply Chain to develop purchased BOM’s and MI for vendors

Support

  • Provides timely, effective support to all departments
  • Participates in project and production meetings
  • Reports out on projects, goals and objectives
  • Attends regular meetings, daily huddles, and other meetings as required


Qualifications:​​​​​​​

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or marine equivalent
  • ​​​​​​​7+ years of experience in boat design
  • 3+ years of experience leading design teams
  • Experience using 3D software (SolidWorks & Rhino preferred)
  • Experience developing MI for production purposes
  • Experience with; Transport Canada TP1332, ISO standards for inflatable boats, Lloyd’s Register Grey Boat Code, ABYC, etc.
  • Experience managing multiple projects concurrently
