Senior DevOps Engineer

Position: Senior DevOps Engineer (GCP)Location: Remote across Canada or USAJob Type: 6-month contract (potential for extension)About the Role:We're looking for a DevOps Engineer to join our eCommerce client's engineering group. This team builds and supports the systems that power theft prevention, real-time tracking, camera integrations, analytics, and other key tools that power their offerings in retailer environments.This is a hands-on, fast-paced role where you'll be setting up and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, managing GCP services, scaling databases, and improving deployment and monitoring infrastructure for production systems. You'll work closely with software engineers and product teams in a startup-style environment focused on speed, experimentation, and reliability.Key Responsibilities:- Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support rapid development and deployment- Configure and manage cloud infrastructure on GCP - Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions to ensure system reliability- Manage and scale Postgres databases, including backups and disaster recovery- Author and review Terraform pull requests for infrastructure as code- Support Kubernetes environments and service mesh solutions (e.g., Istio)- Collaborate with developers to troubleshoot issues across infrastructure, applications, and environments- (Optional) Contribute small Kotlin or Java pull requests within the codebase if experiencedRequired Skills and Experience:- 3+ years of hands-on DevOps, Site Reliability, or Cloud Engineering experience- Strong experience with Kubernetes (deployment, scaling, configuration, and monitoring)- Proficiency with GCP (preferred) or AWS (if strong Kubernetes experience)- Experience managing Postgres in production environments- Proficiency with Terraform or another infrastructure-as-code tool- Experience setting up and managing CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI)- Familiarity with Istio or other service mesh technologiesNice to Have:- Coding or scripting experience with Java or Kotlin- Experience working in startup or fast-moving environments- Familiarity with container security, observability, or performance optimizationThis environment is startup-driven, fast-paced, and dynamic.
