Job Information

The Manager works collaboratively with colleagues within ITI, particularly Policy, Planning, Analysis and Communications, Client Services and Community Relations, the Diamonds, Royalties and Financial Analysis Division and the NWT Geological Survey. The Manager regularly collaborates with GNWT colleagues in the Departments of Finance, Justice, Executive and Indigenous Affairs, Lands, and Environment and Natural Resources. The Manager also works with colleagues in Natural Resources Canada, Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor), NWT Indigenous governments and organizations, mine operators and mineral explorationists and non-government organizations (e.g., NWT & Nunavut Chamber of Mines). The position also sits on key interdepartmental and intergovernmental working groups such as the Mines Intergovernmental Working Groups.
The Manager must manage a myriad of diverse projects and people to collaborate on simultaneous initiatives. Each of multiple projects is at different stages of development, approval, review or evaluation, and requires considerable project management expertise.
Work is performed under the general direction of the Director. The Manager has a significant amount of latitude provided that the policies, guidelines and interests of the GNWT are complied with. This latitude is tempered by the knowledge that incorrect interpretation of policies, guidelines and interests in likely to result in considerable conflict during meetings; and political backlash from stakeholders, particularly mineral explorationists, mine operators and Indigenous governments organizations. Judgment is required in interactions with stakeholders. A high degree of diplomacy and tact are required. 

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by: An undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Economics, Earth Sciences or related field plus five to seven years of progressively related experience, with a minimum of three years in a supervisory role. Equivalencies are considered. Assets include: ¿ Experience in one or more of the phases of the mineral development life cycle (i.e., exploration through remediation). ¿ Experience in mineral policy development in a province/territory.
