Role Responsibilities

The Range and Maintenance Specialist position has daily contact with CNC staff, event and sport organizers, Biathlon Canada/Alberta, RCMP/Conservation Officers, general public, contractors and salespersons.

Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, this position supports ongoing maintenance and operation of the Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park as an integral member of the Operations Program Area. The primary areas of responsibility include: Biathlon (gun range) operations, maintenance and site coordination, buildings, equipment and grounds maintenance, special event support, snow clearing, and procurement/ administration as needed. 


This position is expected to implement the projects and activities identified in annual Operational Plans according to priority classification and subject to human and financial resources. This position is a 40-hour per week position which requires regular weekend and occasional shift work.

Biathlon Range:
• Developing and implementing annual operating plans that include infrastructure and equipment replacement, maintenance, and budget forecast planning
• Perform regular scheduled maintenance for the shooting range as outlined in the manufacturer's recommendations and site-specific schedules
• Safely collecting and properly disposing of hazardous materials (lead) and copper casings from the biathlon range 
• Troubleshoot and repair infrastructure and system failures at the biathlon range as outlined in the manufacturer's recommendations and site-specific schedules
• Liaise with site partners including biathlon coaches, sport organizations and Range Safety Officers (RSO) to coordinate signage, storage, range access, maintenance schedules and event needs
• Maintain and operate the electronic targeting system as outlined by the manufacturer
• Order and maintain necessary supply inventories to ensure no disruption to training schedules or special events
• Act as a subject matter expert within Alberta Parks on Biathlon range operations and maintenance to support the effective operations of other sites (i.e. Mount Shark range) as required

Facilities and Common Area Maintenance:
• Assist in the snow removal and ice control operations for parking lots, sidewalks, and facilities including the operations of plow/ sanding trucks, skid steer, loader, shovels, etc. 
• Assist in site landscape operations including mowing, trimming, weed control, litter & debris control, flag maintenance, etc.
• Supporting and assisting the Facility Operation Coordinator with indoor and outdoor building maintenance and repair tasks for facilities, utilities, and fixtures

Trails, Snowmaking and Equipment Support:
• Participates in the maintenance of all site trails and responding to emergency events (i.e. wind events, drainage challenges, erosion, etc.)
• Where required, support the snowmaking, grooming, trail maintenance programs to ensure the highest quality visitor experience 
• Where required, support the CNC Heavy Duty Mechanic in the operations and maintenance of equipment
• Assist with staff training and other operational activities as required

Role Continued

Event Management:
• Assists in the set up, running, and clean up of summer and winter events
• As requested and to site standards and procedures

Administration:
• Create parts order lists, stocking and counting of parts and supplies inventories
• Competitive procurement practices are to be used at all times
• Participate in training sessions as required
• Accurate, professional, and timely email management
• Accurate time entry completed and submitted according to Department Policy
