Role Responsibilities

The Ministry of Immigration and Multiculturalism has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as an Immigration Partnerships Advisor

Reporting to the Manager, the Immigration Partnerships Advisor is responsible for providing specialized knowledge, analysis and information, as well as stakeholder engagement and partnership development, to support the Province's international talent attraction strategies and initiatives, as well as Alberta's federal-provincial-territorial relations.

The Advisor's role is to provide subject matter expertise, engagement and advocacy support, and policy development on inter-government and international immigration initiatives, and support key engagement activities such as executive and Minister-level federal-provincial-territorial meetings, international talent attraction missions, and support inter-department collaboration and partnerships.

The Advisor must be able to travel internationally.

In your role as an Immigration Partnerships Advisor, you will:  

Support the development of international and federal-provincial-territorial networks and partnerships that support Alberta's immigration, labour and economic goal.  Liaise with various key internal and external stakeholders to plan and execute strategic international and federal-provincial-territorial meetings, forums and missions.  Provide subject matter expertise, research and analytic support to develop talent attraction strategies by assessing the political, immigration and labour environments in Alberta, Canada and international markets.  Provide subject matter expertise, research and analytic support to develop Alberta perspectives and positions, strategic options, and direction/advice to senior decision-makers on international and federal-provincial-territorial immigration-related activities.  Assist in the development of international talent missions to highlight Alberta's strengths.  Planning and managing projects to meet delivery timelines.  Develop and maintain a level of competency in specific sectors and related subject areas in order to ensure a "leading edge" level of expertise to serve the department and partners.  Provide feedback on issues and activities to aim towards the accomplishment of identified key branch results and strategies.  Draft responses to Albertans and other stakeholders. Ensure Alberta's interests are reflected appropriately.  Draft responses to action requests related to the unit's work. 

Qualifications

Requirements: 

University graduation degree in a related field plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.   For application consideration, you must attach a cover letter explaining your qualification and suitability for this role.

Equivalency:

Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience 1 year of experience for 1 year of education 

The following knowledge or experiences are considered as assets:  

Knowledge of key concepts in Canadian intergovernmental relations, as well as international labour mobility.  Knowledge of talent attraction policy objectives and programs and ability to align work activities with those objectives.  Knowledge of policy and strategy development, and research and analytic techniques.  Understanding of current international, economic, political and social issues.  Experience with developing briefing notes, conducting research, preparing reports, presenting and conducting analysis.  Experience in international talent attraction and mobility.  Foreign Language(s) skills and superior English verbal and written skills.  Experience in developing and retaining cross-divisional, ministerial, and external stakeholder relationships.  Demonstrated skills in the area of project management.  Organization and prioritization skills to balance multiple ongoing projects at one time and ability to meet tight timelines and a strong attention to detail.
