Position Summary

Reporting to the Director, Utilities & Sustainability, the Coordinator, Utility Services provides expertise and coordination for strategic initiatives, programs, and future planning. This position provides technical and project support for the Utilities & Sustainability and Public Works departments, works to maintain the integrity of infrastructure data, and supports the City’s asset management program.

Responsibilities

include, but are not limited to:

• Coordinate the implementation of long-term maintenance plans and strategic projects for water, sewer, and waste as recommended by City strategic plans, asset manufacturers, and technical experts.
• Maintain digital maps and databases for municipal infrastructure. Receive, review, and enter as-built data for new infrastructure and provide quality control for existing data.
• Provide project and technical support, including custom mapping, topographical surveys, data analysis, and performing or coordinating condition assessments.
• Participate in the review process for reports, designs, and plans created for or circulated to Utilities & Sustainability to provide feedback through an operational lens.
• Provide operational insight and produce reports and briefings on operational and project matters. Compare costs, specifications, and other data to support initiatives.
• Assist with developing and updating operating procedures and standards.
• Assist with tracking progress of department maintenance programs and make recommendations for maintenance and repairs based on reports, assessments, and technical review.
• Assist with developing procurement requests based on department needs, and provide coordination and oversight of small, contracted projects.
• Liaise with residents, utility companies, engineers, developers, and other external stakeholders regarding department infrastructure, services, and programs. Participate in inspections of new infrastructure.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a Diploma from an accredited institution in the area of Engineering/Technology, GIS, Geomatics, Project Management, Asset Management, or similar program. Candidates must be a member of, or eligible for membership, in the Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists (ASET) or similar designation. An Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License is required. The incumbent will have a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in the design, construction, or operation of municipal infrastructure. Familiarity with asset management programs and systems is considered an asset. This position calls for a high degree of computer literacy, including extensive experience with Microsoft Office, Geographic Information System (GIS), and AutoCAD or similar digital drawing programs. The ideal candidate will have a high level of professionalism, strong organizational skills and possess an optimistic, resilient, and positive mindset.

A current Driver’s Abstract will be required at the time of interview.
